But when she unexpectedly finds herself stranded in the Burmese capital of Rangoon, Laura is suddenly in the midst of a city torn apart by oppression and dissent. No longer able to remain one of life's "tourists," Laura begins a journey beyond the city, and beyond her own personal borders. It is a journey that will take her to the very heart of a nation that is, like herself, in crisis.

An adventure. The horrible things that go on in other countries. I hope freedom will soon find them.

This movie had potential, but fell through the cracks. To bad.

Really good and very touching: amazing actors, suspense, and it's all based on true events that took place in a country most people have never heard of. This sad story of military oppression in Myanmar is just as up to date today, as the Buddhist monk protests in September proved.

A sleeper movie I knew nothing about when I rented it. Excellent drama which both thrills and makes one think. Recommend!

This is Boorman at the peak of his talents: real life modern history integrated with a believable fiction story. Think Oliver Stone's Salvador or The Killing Fields. Better than the former, lesser than the latter.

Err...this movie is extremely Orientalist, perpetuating all kinds of stereotypes even though its objective (I assume) was to make Asia seem LESS exotic. It utterly fails. The acting is terrible, as is the dialogue; this movie really isn't worth your time unless you love (and I me...( read more)an LOVE) films about Asia. You will still think it's terrible.
