Critic Reviews from Rotten Tomatoes

"This movie is rotten."
‑ Michael Wilmington, Chicago Tribune
"Funny Martin Lawrence in drag with potty jokes."
‑ Nell Minow, Common Sense Media
"Idiotic "comedy" is larded with thick makeup and thin performances."
‑ James Rocchi, Netflix
"The movie has no audacity or verve; it's all recycled toilet jokes, cheap sentiment, and caricatures."
‑ James Kendrick, Q Network Film Desk
"The hitch is that Malcolm doesn't realize what a honey Sherry is -- even a well-padded fat suit can't hide Malcolm's romantic urges, and this state of affairs sets up the film's subplot."
‑ Stephen Miller, TV Guide's Movie Guide
"Farcical adroitness and Martin's ablity to turn on the charm keep Big Momma's House perking along."
‑ Jay Carr, Boston Globe
"Big Momma's House seldom finds anything funny for Lawrence to do in drag."
‑ Jeffrey Westhoff, Northwest Herald (Crystal Lake, IL)
"squarely aimed at the type of audience willing to overlook all sorts of inconsistencies and stereotypes in a movie as long as it includes a few juicy toilet jokes."
‑ James Sanford, Kalamazoo Gazette
"Everything about Big Momma's House looks like a twice-told joke."
‑ George Meyer, Orlando Weekly
"Other than a few fun moments, Big Momma's House doesn't turn out to be the rip-roaring drag queen comedy it promised to be"
‑ ,
"The movie has some big laughs, yes, but never reaches takeoff velocity."
‑ Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times
"Lawrence isn't doing anything that hasn't been done before, and he's certainly not doing it any better."
‑ John R. McEwen, Film Quips Online
"O sonho de Martin Lawrence é ser Eddie Murphy. Infelizmente, porém, lhe faltam duas coisas: o talento do ídolo e a capacidade de atrair bons roteiros."
‑ Pablo Villaca, Cinema em Cena
"The comic spell that hangs over the plot like a tent of engorged cellulite, and which asks us to dig every corny, contrived, old-hat bit of folksy nonsense and jolly raunch that the writers can cram into us."
‑ David Elliott, San Diego Union-Tribune
"Big Momma lacks the guts and the wits to go for anything but cheap laughs."
‑ J. Rentilly, TNT's Rough Cut
