The war in Somalia (Africa) goes badly when a black hawk chopper is shot down in the middle of a hostile city. Ridley Scott impresses with strong character and oustanding visuals. The best war movie of 2001. The story doesn't pull any punches and never lets up, giving a more gripping epic than Private Ryan's movie. The story is based on a 1990s incident.
Does anyone realize how long this freaking movie was? This was actually an awesome war movie. This movie changed my thoughts for the actor eric bana. I wil watch his next movie. Josh hartnett was awesome in 30 days of night, but he was better in this. Orlando bloom? Great job dude. Ewan McGregor waas also pretty good. This was a reallly good movie and its soo freeaking looooooooong. Dangit i almost fell asleep on it. Anways great film

Very good movie, strong acting and just well.... good! It brngs a light to what those young men had to go through when they were over there. The extra's on the DVD are very captiovating as you see the actors talk and spend time with the actuel young men that were over there.
Fantastic cinematography, great action, well defined characters, beautiful sound design and the editing carries the film from one scene to the next in a superbly balance flow that ties everything together. Basically, if you enjoy war movies check out BHD. Similarly Recommended: We Were Soldiers
I need this just to see why Brendan Sexton hated how it turned out so much, because at the time he was a member of the ISO and thought the politics got mangled.
In 1993 the US military tried to capture officials of Mohamed Farrah Aidid's militia. The ensuing fire fight was the most intensive close combat Americans had engaged in since the Vietnam War. This is a great war film packed with action and insight into this historical event.
This movie told about America Ranger that try to capture Somalis Two Top Liutenants of a renegade warlods. This movie showed how hard the War World is.
This movie is filled with action. It portrays the war in 1994 very well. The fighting is very realistic. And for all you girls, don't get discouraged from watching this just because its a war movie....Josh Hartnett is the star...and mighty fine during combat.
A fantastic film. Full of action, amazing war scenes and so easy to follow. No silly plots along with it either. It was so realistic, felt like you were in there with them, sound effects and everything were brilliant. Gruesome aswell which was great. I Loved it.
Great war movie, lot's of war movies have to invovle falshbacks to have a detailed and interesting plot, the plot is all in the action, great film, shame I lost the DVD I'm hating myself for that.
Two black Hawk choppers are put down. What transpires is alot of desperate marines trying frantically to secure and survive against impossible odds.
Josh Harnett, Orlando Bloom, Ewan Mcgregor, Eric Bana, Jason Isaacs all do a magnificence job of their marine counterpart roles. Also a peek from Ioan Gruffudd.
Some graphic scenes and bloody gore that are sickeningly realistic. Amazing battle scenes and tense heart-pounding music. Was quite savage in parts. Even some slapstick comedy lurking in here!
Was more enjoyable watching this with my Lady Rachael, but not the best film we watched together, still damn good. All seemed abit pointless in the end like it was all for nothing, just running in a large circle. Killing and barbarism yet it's hard to stop these dictators in Africa, there's always another one popping up. Violence met with violence does sum it up.
Not Ridley Scott's best film but a bloody good tour de force all the same.
Awesome and It was so realistic.the true story behind U.S. involvement in Somalia during an ill-fated humanitarian mission, the plot of Black Hawk Down is laid out clearly within the early stages of the film. On October 3, 1993, U.S. soldiers entered Somalia on an exercise that was supposed to take about thirty minutes. The mission turned into a nightlong battle pitting a handful of American soldiers against thousands of heavily armed Somali militia. Nineteen U.S. soldiers and more than 1000 Somalis were killed as a result.
The first half hour of the movie builds up to the actual mission; then for the next two hours the audience reels through the intensity of the battle. Even with the constant shock of horrific after gruesome situation, the film flows along fairly evenly and is not hard to follow.
This film focuses a lot on the sacrifice of war and the blurring between right and wrong. Some have dubbed it the most violent film produced by a major studio. Many audience members were obviously disturbed by the detailed gore. Some were disturbed so much, that by the time something positive happened, they were too shook up to realize it.Black Hawk Down focuses on telling the story of the soldiers involved with dignity.And Black Hawk Down is an extremely well done war movie - great cinematography, decent dialog, and a fairly accurate storyline. Ridley Scott has another great film to add to his credits. The best thing about this movie is that it has reminded us of an "incident" that was brushed under the rug, yet good soldiers gave their lives for. When you see it, keep in mind that you are viewing one of the most intense films ever produced, but that This is what war is like.It shows us that the hearts and strength wounded by the Somali people. The American Rangers and Delta Force fighting together and trying their hardest to survive. I can say almost none of us can understand how hard it is and the suffering it took for those soldiers to survive.

wow i have not seen this movie in ages but this is a bloody good movie 2 watch because this is a true story...i think the director of this movie (ridley scott)..done a good job directing this Action & Adventure, Drama movie because you never know what 2 expect throughout this movie but he has made some good movies cuz hes made black hawk down, alien 1, blade runner, nd a few other good movies but i cannot rememebr what they are...this is a sad movie because this is a true story...the whole cast is brilliant throughout this movie
