  If your an open minded person, Black Sheep is both clever and ludicrous in equal measure. I had low expectations and I was more than surprised when I discovered this was actually pretty lamb good. It's not sophisticated or as decently constructed as fellow horror movies with the surrealist humour like Shaun of the Dead, mostly because of it's acting and a couple of plot flaws. However, even though it's amatuerly made and lacks the substance of other horror comedies. What makes Black Sheep stand out is it's potential in doing what it wants to do. Which is, in this case, produce belly laughs and terrify with brutal and gruesome gory deaths at the hands of mutant sheep, forgetting about everything else and doing what it wants to do perfectly.

  For a low budget, this movie was good. Not brilliant but not bad either. But I must say that the mutation was quite unnecessary.

  A very gory and funny horror comedy! For a low budget the gore effects are good, gruesome and it's generally quite funny most of the time! You'll never think of sheep the same way again! If you liked Shaun of the Dead give this a go.

  Greatest black comedy film offers a refreshingly unique New Zealand twist to the well-used zombie theme. This was anything but sheepish when it came to blood and gore. Reminiscent of early Peter Jackson films, the graphic detail is bound to make you squirm, and at times chuckle. NZ director Jonathan King does a fantastic job as he is following footstep on director Peter Jackson from his latest 1990's horror/comedy movies including <i>Braindead</i>. The actors all did a great job and it was shot extremely well. It is a very fun and high quality movie.

Too much "oh I love that film, lets put that in our movie so the horror fans know we get them" bullshit. or if you are going to "pay homage" (ie borrow plot points and special effects shots) at least make a better movie than the one you are homaging. If you can't make a movie better, DON'T REFERENCE THAT FILM. and it CLIMAXES with a sheep fart joke. I'm taking away a star for that

  An immoral farmer using illegal genetic manipulation to create a new strain of sheep gets more than he bargained for when a couple of animal rights activists accidentally release a mutant virus that turns his flock into flesh eating monsters. Black Sheep does exactly what it says on the tin. Taking its cues from zombie and werewolf films, it's a no frills comic horror film that doesn't aim for outright parody or belly laughs, instead relying on the inherent silliness of the idea. As a result I'd hardly call it hilarious, but it does have its funny moments and the film as a whole is surprisingly well done, with the cast playing it admirably straight, some very nice photography and quality effects. Very much in the tradition of countryman Peter Jackson's Bad Taste and Braindead (although a lot more reserved by comparison!) it will also appeal to fans of Sam Raimi's early work and Shaun Of The Dead. I'd like to have seen more of Tandi Wright's amusingly amoral mad scientist, but it's a well made irreverant monster mash that rarely fails to entertain.

  I got this film once for Christmas. The idea of killer sheep appealed to me, and I knew I had to see it. This film is a lot ofd fun to watch. It's terrific. It's one of the best Horror comedies, and everything about this film is superb. If you love silly films with unrealistic themes, then this film is for you. No matter what genre of film you like. Give this one a look, you might end up laughing.

  Silly New Zealand horror about genetically modified sheep turning evil. Was bored half way through, but New Zealand scenery very nice to look at, and the sheep were cute before they turned nasty.

  I enjoy a good campy horror movie, but Black Sheep just didn't do it for me. I think that a person would have to have a very particular sense of humor and a bit of a sheep fetish to like this movie. There were a few moments that made me laugh (that sheep driving the truck of the cliff was just priceless), but I didn't get any thrills from most of the attempts at humor or the gore. Black Sheep was a good idea, but that's about the best thing that I can say about it.

  It's a film that attempts to be, and is as daft as it attempts to be. What more could you expect from a film about killer sheep? As it turns out I found it a lot creepier than some killer animal films as sheep are pretty creepy. It is similar to the likes of Braindead. I laughed at the jokes, I squirmed at some of the gore. Too daft to ever be really teriffying, and the usual roll call of characters dilute some of the outrageousness. Overall a bloody awesome film.

As a contribution to the zombie genre, it's interesting and may be amusing to other viewers, as the script is obviously referencing tons of the more offbeat 70s and 80s zombie flix. I wasn't over or underwhelmed, but many will be likening this to Braindead (Dead Alive) no doubt. I recommend it, but it just didn't connect with me.

Plus the bad guy getting his wang eaten by sheep was out of place and obviously just something they wanted to do, even though it ruined his cool death scene via plane. Once again, cool sheep makeup.

  Bargain basement horror without the wit of Peter Jackson's early splatter classics. Despite an interesting change of scenario the WETA effects seem dated, as does the creativity on offer.

  This was the most amusing animal based horror-comedy that I've seen since "Revenge of Billy the Kid" (1991). It was silly when it needed to be silly and gory where it needed to be gory. It wasn't laugh out loud funny at any point nor was it even the slightest bit scary but it was filmed beautifully and acted perfectly. Even the orchestral background music worked. It's a very classy product which pretends to be just another B movie. I don't usually even like horror-comedies but, since the humour in this was so gentle, it wasn't ruined by the over-the-top comedy excesses of something like the awful "Shaun of the Dead". Everyone will undoubtedly compare "Black Sheep" to Simon Pegg's efforts though it is really better to see this as in the same vein as old school Peter Jackson. I suppose that is no big surprise since not only is it a New Zealand film but the effects were created by Peter Jackson's Weta workshop. Anyway, the story was just as ridiculous as you would imagine any film about zombie sheep to be. There were even a few mutating were-sheep thrown in as well due to the nature of the DNA altering serum which caused all the trouble to begin with. I'm sure there was supposed to be some comment there about genetic research and New Zealand sheep farming but this was hardly hardcore political satire. Every possible sheep joke was used anyway even the baaaad ones. The action sequences were all really well done. The gore was nice and visceral with lots of blood and guts everywhere. The sound of stampeding sheep in the distance created a nice bit of atmosphere from time to time although there wasn't really any tension or suspense to speak of. I couldn't really find any other fault with it except that sometimes the sheep looked a bit too fake so I'm giving it 8 out of 10. It did exactly what it set out to do and I found it all very entertaining.
