Bava's first effort as full time director and one of his best. Some of the creepiest and most memorable moments ever captured on film.

Some awful dialogue and a woolly plot is compensated by superb visuals and a mean Gothic streak. Recommended.
Probably the only Mario Bava film worth a damn even if it isn't very scary or gory by today's standards.
Barbara Steele is the only good reason to watch this anyway and, since she plays two parts, you get twice as much of her for your money.

This film had really nice special effects and a neat atmosphere. I was pleasantly surprised. I will check out more of Bava's films.
