Alex Orr's dark comedy Blood Car stars Mike Brune as Archie Andrews, a mild-mannered elementary teacher attempting to beat the high cost of gasoline (forty bucks a gallon) by creating a car that runs on something other than traditional petrol. He makes large purchases of wheatgrass from a young store clerk (Anna Chlumsky) who has a crush on the teacher. However, when he discovers that his new invention runs best on human blood, Archie suddenly becomes involved with a woman who does not share his or the store-clerks environmental beliefs. ~ Perry Seibert, Rovi

Critic Reviews from Rotten Tomatoes

"'Blood Car' is essentially a one-joke scenario that never quite adds up to the sum of its mangled body parts."
‑ Derek Adams, Time Out
"Okay, if you like this sort of thing."
‑ , This is London
"satirise[s] the ethical, social, ecological and geopolitical exhaust left by America's all-consuming love affair with the car, that great symbol of status and mobility, in a world increasingly running on empty."
‑ Anton Bitel, Sight and Sound
"A mumblecore mix of social commentary, black humour and fanboy salute that's either the Emperor's New Clothes or bonkers-brilliant."
‑ Jane Crowther, Total Film
"This ingenious heir to Roger Corman's 'Little Shop of Horrors' and 'Bucket of Blood' literalizes the idea that the comfort and clout that Americans enjoy are the benefits of a Faustian blood-for-oil contract to which all of us are de facto signees."
‑ John Beifuss, Commercial Appeal (Memphis, TN)
"[Director] Orr pulls out all the stops, even when he should leave them in, and the result is a joke that can't quite sustain the movie's running time."
‑ Bruce Newman, San Jose Mercury News
"At just 75 minutes, even a car on blood still runs out of gas."
‑ Graham Young, Birmingham Mail
"This small-budget blend of Ferat Vampire and Little Shop of Horrors climbs through the gears from low comedy to a gleefully cynical finale..."
‑ Anton Bitel, Little White Lies
"I have a feeling it will probably become a cult classic."
‑ Rich Cline, Shadows on the Wall
"Undeniably inventive, unconventional and occasionally very witty."
‑ Rosie Fletcher, SFX Magazine
"Blood Car may have been collecting prizes and earning praise for its supposedly wickedly twisted satire but it still seems trashy, B-movie junk."
‑ Allan Hunter, Daily Express
"A black comedy-horror with gas in the tank."
‑ Kim Newman, Empire Magazine
"Looking for alternative fuels? This one will cost an arm and a leg (but not necessarily yours)."
‑ Kevin A. Ranson,
