It is one of Leonardo DiCaprio's biggest leaps in acting and a landmark in his career. While I didn't actually find the story all that moving, this is a very well shot film and captures the look they were trying to achieve 100%.

Powerful films with messages that sink deep into the bottom of your soul are very hard to find these days. Even more so in an era where sex and violence rule over power driven stories.Edward Zwick's Blood Diamond delivers an old school punch and a massive wake up call in story...( read more). It centers around three people: a smuggler,a fisherman and an American journalist who by fate, or destiny get caught up in one of the bloodiest chapters in African history over the one thing in Africa everyone wants, diamonds.

Blood Diamond is powerfully moving, brilliant, taunt and a movie going experience that will stick with you long after it's over.

Edward Zwick's Blood Diamond centers on three individuals: A diamond smuggler(DiCaprio), A fisherman(Hounsou) and a reporter(Connelly) all are caught up in someway or another in the diamond trade in 1999 Sierra Leon during the civil War that was being fought there over none other than, diamonds. The story while interesting and engaging is, at sometimes rather dull and bland. But that easily is overshadowed by the mind blowing performances the bullet proof plot and heart breaking scenes. It's the kind of film that you just can't experience once but must experience twice to fully comprehended the story at the very center of it all. All in all Blood Diamond is a mind bending movie with a great heart that project's itself well onto the screen.

Leonardo DiCaprio does amazing in this film and serves up one of his best performances to date as a diamond smuggler with a heart. Djimon Hounsou is phenomenal as the fisherman/father Solomon who risk everything to find a rare diamond he hid in the mountains, Hounsou's performance is crucial to the film and makes it worth the watch. Jennifer Connelly is also great her and proves an amazing contrast to her male costars she brings the heart and the deep rooted soul to this film and is another class act in this handsomely mounted motion picture.

Ed Zwick's Blood Diamond sets out to make a statement and it does. It brings to mind the very questions we have about life, death, greed, family and love It puts it all up front for us to see and let's us take in the power and strength of this picture. All in all It's a motion picture you can't miss or ignore, Blood Diamond delivers.

A fisherman caught up in the civil war of Sierra Leone reluctanctly teams up with an amoral smuggler to retrieve a precious stone in the hope that it will secure freedom for his family. Edward Zwick has made a career of making worthy adventure-with-a-message movies which have ten...( read more)ded to be a cut above the usual Hollwood action blockbuster fodder, and Blood Diamond is very much in this tradition. Rather than a deeply insightful analysis of the political situation, it is more of a straight action adventure that uses the conflict as a colourful backdrop to the story. Not that it doesn't have any points to make; it highlights the cynical complicity of the West in the conflict diamond trade, and the "politics" of the warring factions whose ideologies extend no further than greedy and corrupt self interest. Zwick's penchant for dewy eyed sentimentality does rear its head towards the end of the film, but no more so than most other films of its type; personally my favourite moment was when Hounsou wordlessly eyed the absurdly ostentatious bauble that has been the cause of all his woes, destined for the necks of the idle rich in a jewelry store window. Not in the same league as the likes of The Killing Fields, but if you want something more in the way of rousing adventure rather than emotionally harrowing, this is a fine choice.

what a powerful movie. it's really upsetting to see the conflict and war caused over diamonds and disgusting to see how we aren't doing anything and are even making the problem worse by keeping the majority of the diamonds locked up to drive up the prices. diamonds aren't rare. t...( read more)hey're as common as pebbles. gas is rarer than they are. and what's even worse is what's going on in darfur. i mean, they aren't even fighting over anything. they're just killing each other and the U.S. is pretending like nothing is happening. instead, we are over in iraq for no reason when we should really be helping to prevent the mass genocide that's occurring in africa right now.

A Sad but wickedly enjoyable movie. Kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time! I recently attended an event called We day which was put on by the free the children foundation. At we day there was a child solider from Africa who spoke, and his speech was so powerful. Most of t...( read more)he events in this movie (Concerning child soldiers) are true things that do happen! So it is from my understand that this movie is very realistic, which what makes it so powerful & disturbing at the same time. These events did indeed take place, and they still do in Africa. (Child soldiers) & camps (tent cities). Which is sad, so I hope that after seeing this movie, you are inspired to do something, to help others, to speak out & give a voice to those who have none!

At first I thought this is going to be hard action but it's not. It looks like a rough picture but it's actually pretty emotional. It has a very "dynamic" story. A solid script that is actually very detailed. A great visual realization of the disorganized and corrupted 90's Sierra Leone Civil War that so many turned their back on. It was a terrible time and place for many civilians it's just really heart breaking that not only did this take place not that long ago but also that it took so long to resolve. A little mainstream for me but a very well done film altogether. Leonardo DiCaprio's role was amazing and the chemistry between all actors was the best.

A good film that highlights important issues that many have forgotten or never even knew about. It?s a shame then when a contrived Hollywood varnish is coated on what could have been a five star film! Still, worth watching though!

Sierra Leone. Leo DiCaprio and Djimon Honsou delivers stellar performances. Both men set out on a quest together to recover a hidden stone for varied reasons. One for personal gains and the other in a hope of saving his family broken up by the constant unrest in his country. Jennifer Connelly plays Maddy, a journalist from the US, hoping to shed some light on the diamond trade. Blood Diamond is one of those powerful films, it has an effect on the viewers. It leaves you feeling grateful, or maybe empowered or simply gobsmacked of what you have witnessed.

One thing Blood Diamond does, and very well, is vividly depict the randomness inherent in the machine of war. It helps, certainly, that the actors are both credible and likable. Too often, skill is replaced with paternalistic moralizing to make social activist films appropriately "powerful," but all three leads are solid actors, especially in these parts. Connelly is well-suited to the pretty, earnest, and well-meaning lady, and Hounsou could be soulful in a toothpaste commercial.

A run-of-the-mill action movie, but with one helluva performance by Leo DiCaprio.
