Blood Sucking Freaks is often considered an exploitation classic, and is one of the select few Troma films to receive a reputation anything like that. It's not hard to see why this film is so well revered among fans of wayward cinema - the gore is disgusting, the torture scenes a...( read more)re extended and make for highly unpleasant viewing and there's an extremely misogynistic tone running throughout the film; something that is very popular with many fans of this sort of cinema. I definitely consider myself an exploitation fan, but I'm only going to rate this film as a must see for people like me; as in it's own right, Blood Sucking Freaks really isn't all that good. The film reminded me a lot of a HG Lewis movie, and the plot seems to take some influence from the "classic", The Wizard of Gore, as it follows a stage act. The stage act here concerns S&M and torture, and the "magician" at the centre achieves his realistic effects through actually killing his actors on stage while his crowd watch. Furthermore, the girls are put to use again for his own sick pleasure, and he has a cage full of rabid, meat-eating naked women in his basement...

The main problem with this film as far as I'm concerned is that it gets too caught up in the sadistic acts and the plot doesn't move fast enough, so after a while it starts to get boring. Director Joel M. Reed clearly has an eye for nasty torture, however, as this film features some of the sickest sequences I've ever seen; chief among them being the guillotine scene, and the part where someone drills a hole in someone's head and proceeds to suck out their brains with a straw! Seamus O'Brien is the lead actor, and it's not surprising that this was one of only two roles for him. His acting is campy and silly, and I really couldn't see him fitting into any other kind of film...which is both praise and a criticism. The locations and special effects all look very cheap, and it's clear that this film was shot on a very low budget; but this grittiness creates a very unclean atmosphere, which helps the film overall as it bodes very well with the nastiness of the action on display. Overall, Blood Sucking Freaks isn't exactly a classic film for my money - but it is mandatory viewing for exploit fans.

Every once in a while, it's fun to scrape the bottom of the cinematic barrel for something so ludicrously bad, absolutely no societal value can be found therein. It's a sort of catharsis to watch a film that's so deliciously terrible, one can only laugh uneasily at the fact that...( read more) it ever received clearance to be made. Suddenly everything falls into perspective, and movies that might have been only mediocre yesterday seem fantastically entertaining today. Bloodsucking Freaks is one of those movies. The acting, story and effects found within this film are unforgivably, hilariously dreadful. It's just sleazy, sadistic fun - the Grand Guginol without the style. I really can't recommend it for entertainment, but if you're curious to see what the absolute bottom-feeders of horror look like, Bloodsucking Freaks is a pretty good example.

Welcome to Sardu's Theatre of the Macabre

    "Tonight, we begin with torture."

I know there's got to be something wrong with me for rating this film so highly. But this is definitely the best Troma production I have seen, and one of the greatest gore movies out there. Period.

It'...( read more)s not just gore. It's a form of sick and deeply depraved art. It transcends what you think you might know about sadomasochism, and torture. Although very fun, and campy as hell, this film touches on some very dark ideas. The acting in Troma films is always notoriously bad, and quite laughable at times, yet it seemed to work extremely well in this case. Some of the best campy-horror dialogue around, I guarantee.

"Her mouth will make an interesting urinal.."

I've seen a few Herschel Gordon Lewis films, and have really enjoyed those. For those of you familiar, a lot of this film is based on HGL's "Wizard of Gore". I feel I am unable to put it in proper perspective not having seen the film that provides precedence to the "Bloodsucking Freaks", yet I still feel confident raving about this movie. I was honestly impressed. You will notice also in viewing this film, that it has helped pave the way, and provide inspiration for a lot of newer gore movies that all the kids enjoy these days.

If you're in the mood for something over-the-top, with some creative gore sequences, and you are for some reason in the mood to be deeply disturbed, then go for it!

They don't make 'em like this any more.

I remember renting this as a kid and thinking this was the dirtiest movie ever made. My mom caught me watching it and got very angry at the video store that rented it to me. I rewatched it university, but I really don't remember liking it that much. I really should watch this a...( read more)gain, but I still kinda feel like I'm not allowed.

Not only looks gruesome, but retarded. And i was right. I watched it last night. I don't like using the word retard, but this was RETARDED!

This movie is an extravaganza of depravity, and bad taste. An hilariously tasteless feast for the sick and twisted little worm that lives in all of our brains. Everything from human dartboards to impromptu brain surgery with a power drill. The acting is atrocious, the producti...( read more)on value is virtually non existent, and the maker's sanity is highly questionable. This is one of those movies that tends to offend many of the people who watch it. What I don't understand is how anyone can take it serious enough to be offended. That being said, it's definitely not a film for everyone, but it's one that every gore hound should see at least once.

I'd say that this is Troma's version of the 1970 horror-film "The Wizard of Gore".
Though this one is better than The wizard of Gore, it doesn't make it good.
A pathetic script, awful actors and lame effects should give this a very low rating, but the whole spectlacle is actually...( read more) funny to watch.
The perverted porno dwarf Luis De Jesus was one funny little fucker.

    Why did they rename it?
The Incredible Torture Show was a far more superior title.

Most of you will most likely not like it, but a few will.
