Phil Allen (Alan Rickman) & his estranged wife, Shelley Allen (Natasha Richardson) work together with their son named Brian Allen (Josh Hartnett) as a team for British Hairdressing Championship for Sandra (Rachel Griffiths). Ray Roberts (Bill Nighy) brings along his daughter named Christina (Rachael Leigh Cook) is Brian's girlfriend.
i LOVE alan rickman but i didnt like this movie as well as i thought i would . i`m not a basher but i want realy fond of the whole gay thing , why not have her run away with a man ? the moral was good but it was still not enough to over ride the two woman . GOD created ADAM & EVE not adam & steve or alice & eve .
Quite .. pointless actually. But, it was worth-watching i guess, to keep me entertained for a blow drying hair contest, aha, really, Josh's accent was quite the oddest ive ever heard really. This movie has potiential at times, but its really just a typical 'lostly' movie. It was quite good though. I honestly thought it was O.K. The movie caught me by suprise. I actually thought it would be more like 40 Days and 40 Nights, but it turned out to be hair LMAO. Despite the fact, it was very humorous. Alan Rickman bores the hell out of me though.
The first time I saw this film I was rather dissapointed. It is a brilliant idea and features some great actors and fairly interesting camera angles but there is still something missing. I am very glad that I finally decided to give it another chance because I find that it is slowly winning me over. In spite of all its promise I still can't give it more than 4 stars however, it is just missing that little extra something. Still, I recommend you see it, it is good movie.
muy buen film, cautivador, cómico, entretenido, con actuaciones increíbles y un guión maravilloso... no tenía muchas expectativas, pensé que me iba a aburrir, sin embargo de principio a fin fue espectacular´...
"I was hesitant at first.. i just gave it a whirl.. and whaddaya know.. it's good.. and it surprised me.. i never knew a movie about haircuts can be so entertaining"
Ok I watched this movie with some apprehension, I thought it might be the one movie I didnt like with Alan Rickman but it pleasantly surprised me! Funny as hell and with a wonderful story about family and sticking together even when broken. Loved it oh and Alan was wonderful as usual :)
The only reasons to watch this movie are Alan Rickman, Bill Nighy and Natasha Richardson. Josh Hartnett's tries a dodgy British accent and Rachael Leigh Cook's character is shoo-horned into the movie.
A similar vein of comedy as "Strictly Ballroom". While the starpower of Josh Hartnett and Rachel Leigh Cook are pushed to get a wider viewership of this film; it's Natasha Richardson and Alan Rickman who really shine and their complicated relationship in this film about a hairstyling contest. Rachel Griffiths from "Six Feet Under" also stars.
The storyline is a bit naff but some really great acting in this film - some extraordinary hairstyles too - an interesting watch but not one I'd go out and buy.
Shame I watched it in German, I'd be interested to hear Josh Hartnett's accent.
Nothing much to the story, but it is a good little film just for entertainment... I was very surprised at how well Josh Hartnett did on the accent. It is not often that a young actor can get that so accurate.
Too self-consciously quirky and cloyingly eager to charm. Even Alan Rickman's attempt at a Northern accent requires a radical suspension of disbelief, let along Hartnett's. Simon "Full Monty" Beaufroy penned the script, and many of the same insipid cliches that bring to mind its predecessor make it a chore to sit through.
Thought it was a great film, some great British actors in it. And though Hartnett and Cook were good...is the film about them so much that tey're on the poster?...his attempt at a British accent was ultimately terrible!!! But apart from the one minor problem for me it was a great film, with a good storyline, but it doesn't take itself too seriously I think...
