Enjoyed this, in-school yakuza, takes bullying to an entire different level!

I loved the soundtrack by the way, fits the movie perfectly.

Coming-of-age dark tale. Now what's the importance around this 'hood?Toyoda describes in a very simple way the daily school upbringing of a bunch of neo-slackers and offers a primitive affiliation to their environment.A great film all in all.

Based on the fantastic manga, this is a gritty, surreal and downbeat film about high school. Saw this on Sept. 12, 2001 and unfortunately there was a plane in the film that the audience couldn't seem to get past, I'm sure everyone was thinking about very recent events, very unde...( read more)rstandable, but the Q&A was more about the plane than about the movie. These are probably the same people who watch TMZ nowadays.

"Blue Spring" is one of the most consistently malevolent and nihilistic movies I've ever seen. Set on a "campus" that looks like a dilapidated inner city block of council flats covered with twice as much graffiti as the toilets of the university where I work, it depicts the inten...( read more)se rivalries of a bunch of worthless teens with "vague dreams" fighting to get up their gang's pecking order and humiliating those lower down in an all-year-round hazing session.

Not much studying seems to be going on, with irrelevant teachers droning on as boys enter and leave the room, eat their lunches, throw stuff at the blackboard, sleep on their tables or vandalize them. Kids rule and have things their way, spending their time smoking, adding to the graffiti, playing the guitar, and beating each other's teeth out with baseball bats. At best, they chill around, being useless. As worst, they just go psychopathic and stab their mates to death in the toilets.

"Blue Spring" contains strong language and scenes of extreme sadism and graphic scatology, spiced up by the most raucous and grating rock music ever heard outside of Russia. Apart from the brilliant camera work, a transparent allegory about blooming flowers and a few more light-hearted moments involving a dwarf gardener, those 82 minutes of aimless teenage angst add up to a very unpleasant experience that made me sick to my stomach.

Cinematically speaking, it's at least a four-star movie. But I couldn't give it more than one star for its content.

Toyoda as director, based on a manga by Taiyo Matsumoto, with Ryuhei Matsuda acting like a bad boy in japanese uniform *am i dreaming or what?* <3

I can't find the words to describe how much I LOVED this film (as wll as EVERYTHING else of toyoda that I have seen).

Apparently, this is a look into today's youth in japan. Whether or not it is represented properly, it is still a very powerful film. The performances are top ...( read more)notch, the cinematography is brilliant, very good direction, and one of the best uses of music in modern film.

I have yet to know someone who has seen this and hasn't enjoyed it.

    A must see.
