Based on Washington Post columnist David Ignatius’ 2007 novel about a CIA operative, Roger Ferris (Leonardo DiCaprio), who uncovers a lead on a major terrorist leader suspected to be operating out of ...( read more  read more... )Jordan. When Ferris devises a plan to infiltrate his network, he must first win the backing of cunning CIA veteran Ed Hoffman (Russell Crowe) and the collegial, but perhaps suspect, head of Jordanian intelligence. Although ostensibly his allies, Ferris questions how far he can really trust these men without putting his entire operation – and his life – on the line.

C.I.A. operative Leonardo DiCaprio enlists the help of the Jordanian secret service to locate the leader of a terrorist cell responsible for bombings in Europe. Being a massive fan of Ridley Scott, I always have very high expectations for his films and this was no different. Unfo...( read more)rtunately what you get is more James Bond than Syriana, the depth and insight into the political situation in the Middle East sorely lacking, the film underneath being more a straight cold war style espionage thriller. I did like the way it showed the parallel between DiCaprio's handler and the terrorist leader as two sides of the same coin; each arrogant egoists with no understanding of or respect for their adversary or their culture, using their "followers" as disposable pawns in their own little power games. It's certainly very solidly made, with decent performances, quality visuals and an intelligent plot, but as with Vietnam, I think we will have to wait til the conflict has ended before we see any truly worthwhile cinema about the subject, at least from Hollywood.

Could of been so much better, especially when people are being sold on a action movi, except we get the Syriana of Spy Game. Dicaprio is good but not great and Crowe is least effective as his overweight hanler. The performance worth noticing is Mark Strong's, he gives a strong an...( read more)d riveting performance. Director, Ridley Scott has shown how lasy and un-impressive he can really be with a overdone subject

A very good film with solid performances from the lead actors. There have been a few films that deal with the issue of terrorists in the middle east recently. Along with The Kingdom this is the one of the best. It has a good balance of action and drama, without any long drawn out...( read more) sequences or an over complicated plot. It delivers the message it is getting across in a very good way.

well. that was the plan, my dear. nothing really new here; more bond than le carré but ridley still knows how to frame a shot and leonardo once again almost convinces me to take him seriously. crowe always fun to watch and i must say his accent is spot on. jeers to the obliga...( read more)tory hollywood romance. best line: we need nailers, not hangers

A little hard to follow at times but overall a decent spy movie.

Great settings, tough-but-sensitive Leo and some nice photography, but mediocre plotting and stereotyped characters.

Boring, butLeonardo DiCaprio made it so much better than it ought to be.
