Russia's famed Bolshoi performs Marius Petipa's lavish ballet about desire and revenge. This orientalist fairy-tale tells the story of Solor, who is deeply in love with the temple dancer Nikiya. But Princess Gamzatti wants Solor for herself... and will even murder to possess him. A high point: the gorgeous and dreamlike third act, in which the corps de ballet executes a spectacular entrance down a ramp. This opening is considered the true test of the quality of a company's corps.
