Seen it all before, repetitive bollocks. I can't really say one good thing about it. I suppose at times the atmosphere in certain scenes was rather impressive, but other than that it's the same old stuff. The fact that it ends with revealing the boogeyman to be a CGI version of s...( read more)omeone in blackface is both hilarious and awkward. God knows how this spawned 2 sequels and it's even more perplexing as to why I will watch them.

    not scary. kinda boring. predictable

I'll admit, I was impressed...with myself. I can't believe I somehow found the fortitude to endure this travesty of a horror movie.

Where do we start? The main character is a whinny pussy deprived with any depth or anything really deranged, which is what this kind of persona requires. The plot line is inconsistent. And last, but not least, the bogeyman is totally ridiculous, not unlike late Iron Maiden videos...( read more).
Yet, I consider it as barely average because the photography work is clean and well done.

The premise of this movie had potential, with childish nightmares returning, imaginary monsters feared by kids turning out to be real and haunting an adult coming back to his old house. Bradbury and King have written effective stories about this. Unfortunately, this movie seems t...( read more)o borrow more from the Darkness Falls in terms of quality and suspense. Tim (Barry Watson) must return to his childhood home and confront the visions that have terrified him his whole life. When he gets there, the evil forces behind the visions are given another chance to get their hands on him. Strangely, the film is both too short and too long. It's too short because near the ending suddenly it starts running, and the resolution is abrupt and unsatisfying, as if the movie makers were in a hurry to end the whole thing; and it's too long because it stretches a paper-thin plot over a hour and a half, so we get a lot of meaningless repetitive stuff. All in all, "Boogeyman" is a generic horror flick with weak writing.

i have to agree that the story is all the time the same...BUT there were some really really REALLY great shots and scenes. great job for the director! but the story....nothing special.
  • November 6, 2009
childish and ultra stupid...i hate this...waste of time...can't put it on my list of horrific and thrilling, doesn't fit in one bit...

I liked the look of this film just because of the creepy box art. But sadly it didn't really live up. It had a good opening but the theme didn't really give them much to work on and it just seemed to have stuff to fill the space until it got to the end which was just confusing. A pretty scary film, don't expect to be able to look in closets for a week or so after you've seen it!
Some of it is pretty confusing and far fetched but in general a good film

Nick Schager, Slant Magazine

Instead of heightening one's fear of closets, it simply creates an overwhelming urge to head straight for the nearest theater door. full review
