Bound Reviews and Ratings

This is one of the most intelligent and erotic thriller films ever made. The story is very engaging and the direction is absolutely incredible, but the whole lesbian thing really overshadows all of that, which severely limits the impact that this movie could have had. Two female ...( read more)leads, Jennifer Tilly and Gina Gershon, did well in their experience on lesbian action scenes that made these look bloody hot.

Of course this movie gets brownies for the girl on girl but dont let that trick you into watching it... come on you know better then that.

Either pull the trigger or get that fucking thing out of my face.
  • October 25, 2009
Hmm, I think I enjoyed this way more than it deserved. The lesbian aspect is pure tittilation for fifteen year old boys, but it's there to enjoy so I did. I could look at Gershon's mouth all day long.

The Wachowski Brothers' directorial debut is a visually dazzling, stunningly plotted, labyrinthine neo-noir with style to spare. Gina Gershon is Corky, the man-ish lesbian who just got out of prison for "redistribution of wealth" and who has begun a job fixing up a condo in a nic...( read more)e mob-run building. Her next door neighbors are Caesar (Joe Pantoliano), a violent money launderer from mob middle-management, and Violet (Jennifer Tilly), his sexy mistress. From almost the moment they meet, Violet has her eyes on Corky, intrigued and, perhaps attracted. Can they be together? It certainly seems that's a viable possibility when Violet gets it in her head to steal $2 million of the mob's money from her boyfriend, framing him for the lost cash. Or maybe they could blame it on Caesar's poor dumb mob adversary (Christopher Meloni). Either way, will this end with Violet running away, and Corky in tow? The film is the writing-directing debut of Andy and Larry Wachowski, a couple of Chicago natives who have a densely plotted and sort of ingenious twist on genre conventions on their hands here, coupled with a pocketful of style. Tilly and Gershon are incredibly erotic and likable as the young couple who could just make their dreams come true. The film's screenplay is labyrinthine, occasionally veering into dark comedy, always keeping you guessing. Bill Pope's cinematography is breathtakingly inventive, sometimes classical, occasionally hyperkinetic. That, combined with razor-sharp and sometimes witty editing, makes this one of the year's best films.

NOTE: The unrated version runs 109 minutes on DVD. The Wachowskis would go on to write and direct the "Matrix" trilogy and "Speed Racer" (2008).

The Wachowski brother's debut is a fantastic sexy thriller and is easily their best film to date. It's beautifully filmed with some great performances, particularly Pantoliano's!

For the longest time you couldn't get me to watch Bound for any reason whatsoever. I saw the Wachowski's boom with The Matrix and like everybody else I was won over by the anime-like stylizations of the brothers. Still I just kinda avoided Bound really for the simple reason that ...( read more)as a lesbian I was completely and utterly worried that the brother's had made some usual "late night on cinemax" movie, and that had no appeal whatsoever.

How wrong I was though. Bound's one of my favorite Neo-Noirs of the 90's and happens to be pretty fricking hot on top of it. Coming across like a low-budget pulp paperback(ya know with the yellow pages and titles like "Sisters in Sin!") and almost entirely set within the neo-gothic confines of some Mafia hotel(great use of limited sets in that regard), Bound feels like classic dirty-filthy-cool Thompson noir.(though it's a lot more optimistic) The baddies are bad, the heroines are tough(and subversive) and the suspense is killer.

Also Gina Gershon and Jennifer Tilly are really hot, but then I'm simple.

one of the best female con movies ever made.
  • June 14, 2009
Ex-con Corky (Gina Gershon) and a not-so-ditzy gun moll named Violet (Jennifer Tilly), who meets Corky and immediately tires of her mobster boyfriend (Joe Pantoliano). Desperate to break away from the Mob's influence and live happily ever after, the daring dames hatch a plot to s...( read more)teal $2 million of Mafia money. Their scheme runs into a series of escalating complications, until their very survival depends on split-second timing and criminal ingenuity.

This is a movie I didnīt expect anything from and thatīs why it took me so long to decide to watch it. Much more than a queen drama, itīs a revised noir where, instead of the man figure, a woman falls in love and plots with the femme fatale.

The Wachowski Brothers I think should go back to making more movies like this. I loved the first Matrix, but they haven't done anything that great since.

Bound, I think is there only movie that's not all visual effects and action. It's about 2 sexy lesbian lovers that team...( read more) up to steal money from the mob. The movie is smart and sexy and is all story and style. I thought Speed Racer was ok, but this movie showed that they are capable of a lot more.

Corky (Gina Gershon) is an ex con that has just been hired as the maintenance person for the apartment complex where a mobster named Ceasar (Joe Pantoliano) lives with his girlfriend Violet (Jennifer Tilly). Corky and Violet soon becomes lesbian lovers and comes up with a plan to...( read more) get over 2 million dollars that Ceasar has and run away together. This is the director debut from The Wachowski Brothers and in my opinion their best work (as directors). "Bound" is a well written and suspenseful thriller with good performances from the three main cast members. Definitely worth seeing.

Bound is a devilishly whimsical little film. The budget isn't the issue, corresponding heartbeats is what we're analyzing.A neo-noir queer film, nothing wrong with the term,on the contrary,Wachowski before their sci-fi gigantic themes fused an urban myth: beware of sexual lusts,they...( read more)'re viciously...addictive!

  • September 1, 2008
A bit of a disappointment if I?m to be honest. Some people made out like it was a really good crime thriller with a lot of suspense but I just couldn?t help but feel that it was just an excuse for some producer to have a film where two women get theirs kit off and well, the rest ...( read more)doesn?t really need to explained if you have half a brain.
The plot was weak to say the least, a few holes here and there. It was also incredibly slow. It basically covers three main characters, one guy, a member of the mob, his girlfriend and another woman who is employed by their landlord to fix up the flat next to theirs. The film starts off reasonably well with the beginning of a very odd relationship between the two woman. A little too unrealistic if you ask me and I felt that was mostly down to the fact that they chose Jennifer Tilly to play the mobsters girlfriend. She can act but there were two problems I had with her. One, her voice gets on my tits something terrible. I?m surprised I made it threw the whole film at all having to listen to that. The second, that she just seemed out of place. I don?t understand out of all the actresses, she got the part. There was an upside to her performance though and that was that it was really hard to work out her motives in the film. At first she just seems to be after one thing and then when she plants the idea of stealing all that money things turn sinister and you can?t tell if she?s is just using the other woman or not. Gina Gershon was pretty good. Definitely the stronger of the two actresses and there are also points where her characters motives are challenged when she is given the opportunity to run with the money.
The climax of the film was decent, but it could have had a lot more suspense to it. I think if the director was a lot more skilful about exposing characters real and caring sides, things could have been better, but because I found it hard to empathise with any of the characters, it was hard for me to worry about them at the end of the film when you can?t be sure which plans are going to work out.
Not a terrible film but it had a whole lot more potential that it just didn?t live up to, which is a shame really because it could have been very good.

Very well told mafia flick with added lesbians.

The story is pretty old but it's put together so well it just doesn't matter. The gals are great, they look the part and they are very watchable. The mafia bods are good cliched fun (inc. the requisite hot headed boss's son) but ...( read more)the best scenes belong to Joey Pants. Playing the patsy, he does a great job channeling the desperation of his situation, he's a dude.

Aside from the whole girl on girl thing, would this be that memorable? Probably not, but it's a fun undemanding watch all the same with some nice set pieces that forshadow the brothers work in the Matrix flicks.
