"Makes one appreciate the life they have...a riveting drama"
  • November 3, 2009

Brick Lane is a street in London in a neighborhood of Indians and Muslims. In this scenario the innocent characters are trying to survive. They're suffering from the attack of coup of his own country and the prejudice of the Londoners before and after September 11. The dialo...( read more)gue through letters between the two sisters, one living in London another in India, is extremely touching.
Issues to decide: Should I return or not for my country? Where is my country? Where is the best place for me?
Excellent interpretations - Tannishtha Chatterjee as the beautiful, sweet and quiet Nazneem and Satish Kaushik as the stupid innocent husband Chanu.
    I really love Indians movies!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic for sexuality and strong language.

Brick Lane was a movie of a young Bangladesh girl, who send send to England to be in a arranged m...( read more)arriage. The lead actress did a good job with her facial expressions, the pain she was carrying, the loveless marriage she was in, all you could see from her face. She had a good relationship with her sister when she was in Bangladesh, and she missed that, so she kept contact with her through letters. The movie portrait the Muslim culture, keeping away the woman right towards man. I found it a beautiful movie that brought delicate issues to the viewer.

This calm and quiet film tells the story of a Bangladeshi woman that gets married to far away London, where we find her 16 years later with husband and daughters, struggling in her uneventful life and still hoping to return back home to her sister. How a couple of events change h...( read more)er mind about her dreams is carried by unknown but very natural and talented actors and a gorgeous cinematography. And although nothing terribly exciting happens throughout the film we still hope for Nazneen to live a happier life and follow her story, as the events of 9/11 make her life even a little more complicated. In its best moments, where only small gestures tell us so much about the characters, that's touching and heart-warming, but of course little spectacular and sometimes a little slow. Still worth seeing for people with the right mind set.

A classy direction with a strong score for an interesting look on closed life of a trap woman who discovered the real meaning of life through errors, religion and love.

Yet another movie about the oppression of Muslim women. This theme is played out. Not every Muslim marriage is arranged of and of those that are, they usually don't end in divorce. There is also a difference between religion and culture. I'm really tired of movies that attempt ...( read more)to give Islam a bad name and I'm even more annoyed with the obsession the film industry has of justifying infidelity among spouses. This is going in my never watch file.

    A must watch - a sensational movie.

It kind of drags on at points and I'm not entirely sure I understood the point, mainly because nothing bad happens at the end of the movie for the cheating and what not.

This movie was going good until they ruined the affair with her stupid speech about different kinds of love. Here's an interesting movie that is beautifully depicted and is filled with love, happiness, and self-discovery. The story plot centralizes around the life of Nazneen, a young woman who comes from a village. She moves to London to enter an arranged marriage with an older man. Liv...( read more)ing a quiet life, she is dutifully completing her household and wifely chores. She does this without much complaint, and certain events arises that enabled her to become independent and self-sufficient. She learns to speak her mind and heart, with the compliance of a strong-willed daughter. She embraces this new part of herself. Great cast- Tannishtha Chatterjee, Christopher Simpson, and Satish Kaushik stars. Definitely worth seeing! Amazing music.

A look into the life of a Bangladeshi immigrant living in Brick Lane, London, with her family & husband from an arranged marriage. It's a fairly average, pleasant TV drama. The most interesting character development actually centres around her husband.

Thios movie was extremely well cast. I thought all the expression and emotion the main actress brought through in just her eyes was brilliant. It is a fairly bleak story, but if you want a fairly calm drama this is for you.

Beautifully shot story of a Bangladeshi woman sent to London to marry an educated, overweight, under acheiver. Bubbles along nicely but somehow not quite satisfying enough. Gorgeous shots of Nazneen's childhood home make it worth a look on a rainy afternoon.
