wow what a bloody good movie..i think that this is a fantastic movie 2 watch because its just so enjoyable throughout...this has got a good cast of actors/actressess throughout this movie...imn not sure which is the best 1 because they are both so really funny throughout...ok they may be a chick flick but i still really loved both these movies...i think that the director of this Romance, Comedy movie had done a good job of directing this movie because you never know what 2 expect throughout this movie because the director of this movie keeps you on the edge's of your seats throughout this movie n its really enjoyable
The problem with this film, is that it is a romantic comedy, and the problem with romantic comedies is that they are seldom romantic or funny. Renée Zellweger, who I actually think is really quite good, portrays the slightly but not really overweight 32-year-old Bridget Jones who spends her life smoking drinking and thinking about men- 3 pastimes I will never be able to relate to. Jones decides to make some changes in her life and ends up entering a relationship with her boss, played by the extremely irritating Hugh Grant. The only thing worse than Hugh Grant in this movie is Colin Firth, who has a drilling monotonal voice and exactly one facial expression. Although the plot is disturbingly awful, and basically about desperate women and the twattish/boring men who acquire them, the film does have some good moments and is on the whole, extremely watchable. But it's certainly not a 'must-see'...
Never let it be said that I will not suffer for my art because yes, I finally gritted my teeth and sat through Bridget Jones's Diary. And I got exactly what I was expecting. A piss-weak sitcom full of the kind of pseudo-observational humour that was starting to look tired by the end of the 80s. Hugh Grant is Hugh Grant again, and Renee Zellweger also suffers for her art by putting on two whole stone for her part for which she gamely falls over, models oversized pants and shows up to non fancy dress parties in playboy bunny outfits. All unbelievably lacking in originality, invention and (for me at least) laughs. But obviously I am not the target audience which clearly is the collection of self-perpetuating stereotypical 30 something women whose idea of a good time is lighting some candles and having a bath. At least I can say I've done it now so I never have to do it again...
Not knowing the story of Bridget Jones, but being egged on by friends to see it I went ahead and rented it thinking that like 'Love Actually' and nearly all British comedies it would be great....but i was highly disappointed. The story was extremely predictable. I would have given it only half a star, but the acting was so amazing that I had to give half a star for Hugh Grant's acting , and one star each to amazing performances by both Colin Firth , and Renne Zellweger, (who gave a highly convincing perfomance as a birtish girl!)
Bridget Jones is an office lady who works for a PR company in this zany comedy about the biological clock ticking, but really she's not that old! Anyway, Hugh Grant is in it, but it's a plus this time, as he plays a rounder, anway. A date flick for 30 something people.
funny funny funny this movie is so real except not all people get the guy love all the british actors in this movie love love love this movie funny, heart breaking and funny.
I love, love, love Bridget Jones! I have read the book twice and the movie did it great justice. Renee is adorable and funny and goofy. The search for true love can be so comical. I love it!
Great chick flick. I think every gir/womanl would feel Bridget's pain in some way or another! Anything that could go wrong for her DOES...well until the end of course!
Bridget Jones: Thank you, Daniel, that is very good to know. But if staying here means working within 10 yards of you, frankly, I'd rather have a job wiping Saddam Hussein's arse.
Bridget Jones is a real person. She's someone any of us knows, as are her two would-be suitors, her gadfly friends, her stroppy parents and the melange of people who populate her life in this year. How they got a woman from Texas to sound so believably British is a minor miracle, and it's one of the many ways Renee Zellweger shines in this role. British women need not despair that an American got this role, because she does them all proud. Though I've not read all of Helen Fielding's book, the film captures the essence of a thirtysomething woman struggling for self-definition in a world of pigeon holes.
What was even more refreshing was to see Hugh Grant playing a downright scoundrel, departing from the shy, erstwhile characters he usually plays. He, too, deserves kudos for a totally believable. So does Colin Firth as the stodgy Mark Darcy. Though a couple of characters in the book were a bit forgotten, the balance of the film is charming, endearing and down-to-earth. It's a film one can enjoy "just the way it is."
Bridget interpreted the life I've had imagined for my self with my vine in the one and my cigeratte in the other hand listening to some crappy love songs in my 30s and waiting for a man to marry...
LOVE it!!! it's like a modern-day pride and prejudice. i love how the mother from sense and sensibility and zidler from moulin rouge play bridget's parents! colin firth=my heart.
I usually despise classic literature, but Austen speaks to me for some reason. And, remakes/retellings of Austen do the same. This particular retelling, along with it's book, is hilarious, even if you don't like Austen.
This is one that clearly ranks highly in the "chick flick" genre, and for those of you who adore these types of movies (guilty!!), you'll love it too! Renee Zellweger truly pulls off the bubble-headed heroine with a grace that is often unmatched in todays Hollywood "it" list, and she easily gives a taste of the plight of everyday women everywhere who will do whatever it takes to fall in love.
