I chose to watch this movie becaus it seemed interesting. The movie is about 3 brothers. In this movie a bear kills the middle brother sitka and later the youngest brother kenai kills the bear that killed his brother in revenge. Later in the movie kenai is transformed into a bear...( read more) and he believes that his dead brother had something to do with this. The oldest brother Denahi tries to killl the bear which isn't really the bear it is his brother Kenai. In an attempt to survive kenai befriends his worst enemy, a grisley bear named koda. Koda tries to teach him the true meaning of brotherhood.
I belieive this relates to world religions in a sense that the religion practices in this moves was like a tribal experience. They protected one another and did what was done to suvive. Kenai did learn the true meanng or brother hood. This movie showsed mayn examples of the life they lives. They prayed to their ancestors which is something I didn't know was done. They also believed that their ancestors had many responsibilites on earth. They believed thay controlled most thing that happened on earth. This to me is definitly an example of Indigenous sacred ways and religion.

I loved this movie! It started with 3 brothers the youngest of them was about to receive his totem at his manhood ceremony. He was very excited about becoming a man and getting his totem, but when he got it his totem to live by was the bear of love which he was not pleased with,...( read more) he said "bears don't even love or think". His oldest brother had received guidance and the other one was wisdom. When they returned; a bear had eaten their fish and taken their basket so the youngest brother went after the bear to retrieve it. The two older brothers went after the boy to assist because they knew dealing with a bear is dangerous. In the process of trying to save his younger brothers the oldest dies. The people held a ceremony for the deceased brother and the youngest brother began to question their traditions and his faith in the spirits, so he goes off to search for the bear. He finds it and kills it and then he sees his brothers spirit come out of the sky. Then all of a sudden his brothers spirit turns him into a bear to teach him a lesson. The boy, while in the form of the bear, meets a bear cub who has lost his mother and wants to hang around with him for protection. The boy learns that bears do love and think and in the end he chooses to remain a bear because the cub needs him. In the end the lesson taught was that love is very powerful and a boy became a man by becoming a bear.

This movie relates to world religions by having a storyteller in the beginning. This movie also shows sacred rituals, like the manhood ceremonies, the totem they receive from the spirits, gathering for the death of the oldest brother. This movie continuously talks about the spirits or unseen powers playing a large role in their lives. The also show early artwork on cave walls.

...( read more)isney/Pixar prepared a special trailer for Brother Bear to show before Finding Nemo (2003) during its initial theatrical release. The moose characters, Tuke and Rutt, suggest that, "If you see only one movie this year, see this one." Tuke then reminds Rutt that "for those who see only one movie this year, it's a little late now". Both the moose then encourage everyone who are "only going to see one movie this year" to leave the theater. As the scene fades to black, Rutt says, "I see some of them leaving." Tuke then replies that maybe they're going to "go find that Nemo guy".

So far, there has not been a Disney movie that I have disliked. I?m sort of a softy when it comes to heart touching films like this. I enjoy how Disney doesn?t play the shelter card for children omitting real life circumstances and teachings of moral values. Even though it was ai...( read more)med for younger audiences I found the film very entertaining.
Right from the start I was able to relate to the sibling connection between Kino and his brothers. Being from a large family I can appreciate the bond they shared. Beginning the story off with such sentiments made it even harder to view the passing of Kino?s older brother Sitka. Especially because he died while saving his two younger bothers. Sitka intentionally breaks a glacier to separate the attacking with bear his brothers, and in turn sacrificing his own life.
With the loss of their older brother, Kino and Denahi are separated by conflict and blame each other for Sitka?s death. Kino wants to seek revenge on the bear and reach the sacred mountain where he can once again see Sitka. What they both don?t realize is that the wise spirit of their brother has sent them on this intended journey. Sitka has passed on to the spirit world with all who had left the world before him. Sitka?s changes Kino into a bear, his destined totem. Both Kino and Denahi enter into new roles, the hunter and the hunted. Along the way Kino runs into an unexpected new companion named Koda. He is an adorable and outspoken cub who has been separated from his mother. Koda desperately tries to form a bond with the abrasive new bear. As time passes and their experiences together grow, Koda and Kino form a brotherly bond. Finding out that they are even more connected than originally thought. The message of respect for all creatures and Mother Earth becomes increasingly apparent.
I loved how they all were connection with each other in the end. Each of them became at peace with their places in the cycle of life. Koda was able to see his mother for one last time. With Kinos new appreciation for Koda and all other creatures he chooses his true form to remain in, the bear. Denahi also has a newfound understanding for the journeys that each individual takes as they travel through life. Also, Sitka who leads his brothers on their way to togetherness and growing into men is able to rest.

Prior to watching, I was a bit skeptical at a childrens movie relating to my World Religions class. However, it was definitely poignant and suiting for the occasion. Brother Bear directly relates to my World Religions class because it reflects most of what we have been learning in the Indigenous Religions Chapter. Some of the aspects specific to Indigenous Religions covered in this movie were initiation, environmental awareness, dependence on Mother Earth, Shamanism, and mysteries of Animal life. In this case the Shaman journeys to a sacred place where the earthly meets the supernatural. This place is where she receives direction and the key to each Inuit?s boys totem. Following the totem is a sort of initiation and journey each must follow to become a man. Kino begins his own journey to self-awareness, discovering the connection between man and animal, and ending at a place of understanding and spiritual connection with his family and ancestors.

Brother Bear was an interesting Disney movie, but I?m honestly not into this type of stuff. The artwork is however amazing though, I heard this was the last hand drawn movie made by Disney and the computer graphic stuff just can?t beat good old hand drawn. I?m not really sure ...( read more)if his hatred of bears in the beginning is justified, he has to fight with other humans and animals as well for food. Plus it?s a wild Animal, I wouldn?t blame it for ruining a get together when it sees a group of humans. Anyway, I kind of felt for the Kenai when his brother was killed battling the bear and sought revenge on the bear. Though, in his situation I guess it wouldn?t have been the best thing to do based on the teachings of his tribe to live together with animals, even though Sitka pretty much did the same thing trying to get revenge for Kenai even though he was the bear. His brother turning him into a bear after killing Koda?s mom is just kind of uncool though, I guess it show?s that he?s discaplined and respects his tribe?s teachings to punish his own brother who thought he was seeking justice for the death of his brother. I wonder if this would have happened anyway if he didn?t kill the bear, so he could do the calling of his totem. I also wonder if Sitka would have been changed if he managed to kill Kenai. I?m surprised Koda didn?t react violently when Kenai told him that he killed his mother and actually forgave him and tried to help him, I guess his totems meaning for the bears was true. I guess if he didn?t though he wouldn?t have tried to protect Koda and Denahi wouldn?t have changed him back into a person. I guess it?s cool that he decided to stay a bear so he could help and talk to Koda, though I would?ve made a different choice? I think this would relate to World Religion in terms of the Native American?s spirituality. They believe in some kind of greater spirit that resides in animals it seems. Also their funeral and ceremonies seem a bit Religious as well.

Imagine seeking revenge on a wild bear for the death of your brother only to find yourself transformed into that animal, this is what happened to Kenai in Brother Bear. After the transformation Kenai learns many valuable lessons in his search for inner peace.
Kenai thinks bears ...( read more)are just dumb wild animals that simply exist. After a bear takes some fish that he and his brothers had caught he seeks to return the basket his brother made only to find it destroyed. He seeks revenge on the bear by killing him. He is no match for the bear and his two brothers come to his aid. In the midst of the fight one of his brothers sacrifices himself to save the other two. Kenai seeks to kill the bear, who he blames for his brother?s death, and upsets the spirits. He is them transformed into a bear. Adventure and life lessons follow as his new found friend, a cub named Koda, make their way to the salmon run and to the mountain where the lights touch the earth, the northern lights. After facing the trials along the way he must make peace with his past in order to move forward into the future.
While watching the movie I could see the parallels in indigenous sacred ways. It starts with the storyteller relaying a story that teaches a lesson to the tribe. There is a Shaman in the story who is there to perform the ritual of advancing to manhood. The movie also demonstrates the kinship with the earth. The area that really demonstrated this relationship with the indigenous sacred ways is the belief in the Great Spirit that is where the sky touches the earth and where the spirits of those who have gone before us dwell.
In the end Brother Bear demonstrates indigenous sacred ways of Native Americans and how their beliefs are passed down through their generations. It also shows how they commune with nature and feel as one with the circle of life both with their tribal family and with the earth.

Brother Bear was a great movie. It?s an excellent addition to the Disney collection. The hand drawn animation reminded me of when I was growing up watching the other Disney movies. I have to say that this movie is too complex for really little kids. I have a little sister who...( read more) is 3 and she was not interested at all so I ended up watching it by myself. This intriguing, coming of age movie is about three brothers who live in a tribal community during what looks like the post-ice age era. They each get a totem during their initiation ceremonies. Sitka, the eldest, gets the eagle of guidance. Denahi, the middle-child, gets the wolf of wisdom. Kenai, the youngest, gets the bear of love. When one brother dies, the main character Kenai vows vengeance on the bear that killed him. The Great Spirits don?t like that he?s going after it for revenge so when he actually kills the bear, the Great Spirits transform him into the very thing he killed, a bear. He then is forced to see life through a bear?s eyes. His other brother does not know that Kenai is now a bear so because he wants to get revenge for Kenai?s ?death?, he ends up trying to kill his own brother. While running from his brother and trying to get to the sacred mountain, he runs into a pesky bear cub named Koda. They end up traveling together and Kenai is forced to show what his totem revealed, love. I loved the two talking moose.
This movie has a lot of references to traditional indigenous religious beliefs. They show a shaman which was very common of various tribes. Great Spirits were also a common belief. They showed animism which is the belief that everything living and non-living has a spirit. Also, initiation rituals were shown which are still common in indigenous tribes today. The movie was also emphasizing the importance of harmony between humans and nature.

    Brother Bear

At the beginning of the movie I didn't think i would enjoy it very much. Then toward the middle i started to enjoy it. Keyni's brother Sitka was killed in the process of trying to kill a bear and also trying to save his brothers. After his death Keyni went after ...( read more)the bear and killed her. Then Sitka came down to earth as a spirit and turned Keyni into a bear for not showing the love he was suppose to from his totem. After Keyni turned into a bear he met a little cub named Koda. Koda was an annoyance to Keyni in the beginning because he wasn't use to being a bear and was anxious to find were the light met the earth so he could be turned into human again. Then Koda told him that he wanted Keyni to go to the salmon run with him and he told him he at the salmon run the light meets the earth. Then Keyni was all about going with Koda. During their adventure to the salmon run the faced many obstacles. They had to run from hunters, they got lost and they had to go through a field of lava. During all these obstacles Keyni and Koda started to get along and became friends. When Koda and Keyni reached the salmon run their were already tons of bears and Keyni was frightened because he wasn't use to being around them as a bear. At the Salmon run the had story time and koda spoke up and was telling a story about how his mom was getting chased by hunters. As koda was telling his story Keyni realized that Kodas mother is the bear that he had killed. Keyni felt so guilty and ended up telling Koda which cause him to become heart broken and run away. Toward the end Keynis other brother Danchi was trying to kill him but Koda came to the rescue and saved his life. Keyni finally reached the light were it met the earth and Sitka turned hi back into human. Koda was disappointed and Keyni realized that Koda needed him and told sitka to turn him back into a bear. After being turned back into a bear Keyni and Koda lived with Keynis family. Keyni received his totem back and by fulfilling his duties he got to put his hand on the wall like his ancestors. This movie touched my heart. It was amazing how a human would want to become a bear to help a friend.

Brother Bear had many things that related to world religion. In the very beginning of the movie it showed the tribes writing/ carving different pictures on the wall. The tribe had a spirit it believed in and the spirit would hand out totems to those that had certain meanings. Keyni got a totem that meant love and he had to follow through with it or face consequences. After following through they got to place their hand print on a wall with the rest of the ancestors that had also followed through with the totem. Also, when some one passed they held a ceremony that had a bonfire. They would send the soul of the dead to the spirits to help with watching over their tribe. The tribes celebrated with special dances and music. Theses are many things the movie Brother Bear had in it to relate to world religion.

Brother Bear was a great movie based on scared ways and family. It was interesting to see part of their culture and the things they held scared. The movie is based on a young boy coming into man hood. He receives a bear as his totem which represents love. In this movie you will s...( read more)ee an example of a primal religion. A religion that has held to their scarred ways and not went with western culture. On the day of his ceremony a bear gets all the fish that is for the dinner that night. The boy being ridiculed by his older middle brother chases after the bear to prove his man hood. The oldest brother dies helping to save his two youngest brothers. An act of courage and love for his family. Being blamed for his brothers death the younger brother goes after the bear. My favorite scene of the movie is when the boy kills the bear on top of the mountain. In the scene the boy transforms into a bear with the help of the scarred spirits. It is a look into their culture and believes. The bear dies and the boy turns into a bear. He helps the cub of the bear who died and learns a lot about the animals and his purpose in life. At the end of the movie he is visited by his oldest brother that is now a spirit guide. He chooses to remain a bear because of the cub, and his destiny is fulfilled. The movie is a great inspiring story about culture and family. It is a little far fetched with the events that happen, but the bigger meaning of the story makes up for it. People in that culture do believe that things events can happen and do happen. It is wonderful to learn about another religion and see how strong their beliefs are.

    Review on ?Brother bear?
I would not have understood the message that the movie ?Brother Bear? tried to deliver, had I not read the chap on ?Indigenous Sacred ways?. It talked about long long years ago , how indigenous people used to live and what they believed in . They believ...( read more)ed in co-existence and harmony among all the living and non-living beings. The lady Shaman was teaching her clan their rules and rituals, at the same time creating new leaders. She had great respect for the spirits and Mother Nature, therefore she wanted everybody to learn this and Kenai the youngest brother learnt it in a hard way. His big brother Sitgo had to sacrifice his life to teach why it is important to respect mother nature. Love for humanhood is strong in the movie. Animal lives the same way that we do. Nothing stops in life , just ling a long story one chap end with starting of a new chapter and its good to put your own feet to another person?s shoe before criticizing anyone or any culture. After watching the movie my heart was filled with unfathomable joy.
I am glad that I had to watch the movie to finish my assignment.

Brother Bear is a story about an Indian family from long ago who was embarking upon a new era in their lives. In this family there are three brothers who journey together. The younger brother wants to be so much like his two older brothers; he wants to become a man badly. This lo...( read more)nging takes him on a journey, learning about love and affection of another family, unlike his own but possessing the very thing he needs.

The way the story was written was beautiful. The setting and characters were well thought out. I believe this movie is a great testament of love, honor, courage, unselfishness, family, and friendship. This story is not only for children but adults who question the value of these things aforementioned. I had a lot of aha moments that allowed me to reexamine my heart and the intentions there of. I strongly recommend this movie because it is not the typical movie, it can definitely be life changing.

While viewing this movie and learning a little about the Indian culture and their spiritual beliefs, I began thinking about different religions in this world. The Indian family held fast to their religion in a higher power and the symbol that came along with a name. The symbol and name that was chosen for you during your ordination is what you were required to live up, to in order to become a man. Upon watching the movie, I noticed that even though they had their own religion, it incorporated many religions across this world. I do believe that even though we all have our different beliefs, there are many similarities.

In closing, this movie is one that touches the heart of man and no matter what you believe, you can relate. As we journey upon this life, there will be things that will hinder what we believe, but life and our many experiences has a way of bringing us back. As it was with the movie, the faith of man was shaken but time along with love, courage, unselfishness, family and friendship brought faith back much stronger.

This movie is very interesting. I did not know what to expect when I first began to watch it, but I was pleasantly surprised. It is about an indigenous boy (Keinan) who is on the quest to becoming a man. He has to fulfill his totem which is love (bear). At first he has a hard...( read more) time understanding what he is to do and how. As he is trying to discover how to fulfill his destiny, he and his brothers have a run in with a bear and one of his brothers gets killed in the fight. From then on he is filled with hatred and revenge and sets out to find the bear and kill it. Well he gets his wish and comes face to face with the bear, killing it; however he did not get the satisfaction that he was seeking because his brother?s spirit turns him into a bear.
During his journey he comes in contact with a little bear (who?s mother he killed), other animals, and other bears on his journey to the mountain where the light meets the land, where he will be turned back into a man. During his time as a bear he learns many things and begins to feel remorse and sorrow about killing the bear. Well in the end he is turned back into a man, but he decides to stay a bear because the little cub needs him. ?He was a boy who became a man by becoming a bear?

Brother Bear the movie relates to world religions in many ways. The most obvious way it relates to world religion is that it is about indigenous people. In the book ?Living Religions? by Mary Pat Fisher there is a chapter dedicated to Indigenous Sacred Ways. They have many beliefs and they were shown in this movie. They believe that everything has a spirit, which is shown when the spirit of the bear and man were put together to turn Keinan into a bear. They also believe in the kinship of all creation, which is the moral of the movie. Keinan became a bear because he is to love and respect all things and creatures not kill them. This chapter also reveals the sacred role of a storyteller. Keinan?s brother was the storyteller in this movie, which keeps his brother spirit and life alive and well through out his people. This movie not only relates to world religion, it is a part of world religion.

?Brother Bear? is a movie about friendship and acceptance. It tells the story of a young boy named Kenai. He is waiting impatiently to become a man, so his brothers stop teasing him. The day of his ceremony, Kenai is handed a totem in form of a bear. The bear symbolizes the love ...( read more)Kenai needs to become a man. After another argument with his brothers, Kenai walks into the woods by himself, where he runs into a bear. Kenai hates bears. He starts teasing the bear, which feels threatened, and attacks Kenai. His brothers, who are now looking for him, see the fight, and try to help their brother. The oldest of them distracts the bear, so he won?t chase his siblings anymore. This distraction ends deadly for the brother. A few days later, Kenai is looking for revenge, and wants to take the bear?s life. The Shaman woman of the tribe calls the spirits for help to protect Kenai. He finds the bear and kills him. All the spirits appear in form of animals. To teach Kenai a lesson, he is transformed into a bear. First he does not realize, what has happened, until the Shaman woman explains it to him. He needs to find the top of the mountain, ?where the spirits touch the earth?. On his journey, he meets a little bear cub named Koda, who was separated from his family. The excursion is full of fun and excitement for the two new friends. Kenai finally learns how to show love to any creature on earth. And it will finally turn him into a man. ?Brother Bear? is a great movie for the entire family.
The movie shares a lot of the rituals and customs of the tribe?s religion. The Shaman woman is much respected within the community. She is the one who performs all the rituals and gives advice. The ceremony of becoming an adult is shown, as well as a death ceremony. The close relationship with nature and all living being is very intense. ?The spirits make changes in lives?.

    Brother Bear
The movie Brother Bear relates to World Religion in very many ways it expresses religion, religion and social issues, practice of religion, indigenous religion, understanding religion, and primal religions. These are some of the many important factors of world relig...( read more)ions. Throughout this essay I will explain the ways I feel this movie relates to world religion.
In the movie you have a tribe which is a group of people who worship and believe in the same God or Goddess. You have a group of various skilled brothers that all belong to this tribe. One brother is known of as an eagle, the guidance of the three. The two younger boys look up to him for answers and concerns. The second brother is supposedly the wise one, but no one seems to think he is as wise as the spirits think. The third brother is pronounced the bear of love during the ritual in the movie. He is greatly confused and frustrated with the fact he got love instead of something else. The wise old woman ensures the boy he should not go against what the spirits have called upon him to be. He hates the fact that he has to be sort of speaking a love bear. His brother picks on him because he is so unwise to the spirits also. The uncertain of the why the boy was chosen to be the love bear, misleads him and shows his loss in his religious belief. The practice of religion is very high through the entire movie. The bears and human tribe show great sense of religion. The tribe practices their religion through rituals, singing, gatherings, and the circle of life. The bears in the movie practice religion through storytelling, gathering, and circle of life. Both bears and humans have to practice survival and believe in local religion. The circle of life portrays a true but diverse image of how life follows human, animal, species, plants and any other form of life not mention. It is a big circle that the earth and all mankind on earth revolve around. Everything produces each other and reproduces each other in the same matter, day after day. It?s a true understanding throughout this movie the pre-scientific of the world because they all believe is it a cause and effect to life. It thought as everything happens for a reason. The boy goes after the bear that was involved in killing his brother. When he goes after the bear he kills the bear not thinking about the bear being a mother or father that would be greatly missed, just like he missed his brother. After living and understanding how bears live a life somewhat similar to a human Keinan had a discussion to live as a human again when he was faced with his brother or to continue to live as a bear. He choose to stay as a bear to comfort and love the baby bear as if he would want someone to do for him. These are all great facts to how this movie relates to world religion today and prehistorically.

Brother Bear is a very entertaining and funny movie to watch. If you're looking for a little humor, entertainment, or somehting to watch, then Brother Bear is the movie for you. Brother Bear is a cartoon based on religion and a very adventurous movie. Brother Bear is a movie base...( read more)d on the main character Kenai who is still searching for who he is and learning more than what he expects to retrieve. Kenai learns his lesson by his brother Sitka dying, because of an incident with a mother bear. After Sitka's death Kenai seeks for revenge and during his journey he is taught a lesson. While being taught this lesson he is transformed into a bear and figures out what's important in life is to learn how to love the one's around you. But, at the end of the movie Kenai has to make a decision whether to be himself or to stay the way he is.
Brother Bear is a movie related to religion by the tribal worships of the spirts and how an individual from the tribe becomes intiated into the tribe. For instance, Kenai was intiated into the tribe when Tanana put markings on his face and gave him a chain with a bear and told him he is "Brother of Love." Also, the movie relates to religion by the end of the movie the tribe put on costumes that resembles different spiritual animals that the tribe worships and does a traditional dance around the camp fire. Even though the movie was based on one surrounding area where the tribe settled which would be called a local; for example, Kenai was looking for the high tops of the mountains where the light shines and where the spirits surrounds the high tops of the mountain, so he can transform back into himself, because he was transformed into a bear to be taught a lesson.

I really liked this movie! When it first started playing, I wasn't sure if I was going to watch it all or not. I admit that I watched alone and not with my 3 kids, because they are very opinionated when it comes to movies. I thought that it was very interesting that the character...( read more)s were native americans, which is not typical for kid movies. But the more I watched this movie, I realized that natives were perfect for the part. The cultural beliefs of native americans are not that different from other religions. For example, I have been raised on the christian faith my whole life, and I (like the characters in the movie) also believe that when loved ones pass on, that their spirits to exist here on earth to protect and guide the living. I was very inspired that gave the young men different character names (love, wisdom), and that allowed these young men to become leaders of the tribe. There were lessons to be learned from this movie, one being the respect and appreciation of animals, because they are just like us. All that bear was trying to do was feed and protect its cub, similiar to how parents provide for their kids. You could see the bond between the brothers, and the closeness of the tribe. I did not imagine that the spirits would turn the young man into the very animal that he sought out to slay. Becoming the bear was probably the best thing that happened to the young man, and at the end of the movie when the young man realized that the bear he killed left behind the cub that grew attached to him was unbelievable. I cried through some parts of the movie that were touching (especially when the eldest brother died), but that same brother sacrificed his own life to save his two younger brothers, now that was a great life lesson. I would encouraged everyone, no matter what nationality or religion to watch this movie, and now I'm going to watch the second part to the movie.

The story takes a turn for the worst when Sitka sacrifices his life to save his brothers from an angry bear. Kenai then in turn kills the bear in revenge, but he did not know he would be turned into a bear by the spirit of Sitka. Now Kenai is being hunted by his brother Denahi. While being hunted Kenai meets another bear named Koda. Koda attempts to show Kenai the meaning of brotherhood, but Kenai soon realizes that he killed Koda?s mother. That?s when Kenai realizes the true meaning of his totem, which is love.
Kenai, a character in the movie Brother Bear, is part of an indigenous tribe called the Inuit. The word ?Inuit? means ?the people? in the Inuktitut language. The Inuit way of life was influenced by the harsh climates and stark landscapes. Inuit communities lived in igloos in the winter and in the summer they lived in huts made of animal skin. Before the 1940?s the Inuit community had minimal contact with Europeans. However during World War II planes made the arctic area more accessible. In many areas Inuit children were made to go to school. Due to population growth, hunting for food could not sustain the community. As a result Inuit tribes moved into permanent settlements and gained access to jobs by the 1960?s.

Brother Bear is a great movie. There are many hidden references to Native American religion. The movie begins with the story of three brothers who belong to an Indian tribe. In one of the opening scenes, the shaman is revealing to the brothers their destinies in the form of wh...( read more)ich totem they were given. This scene related to indigenous religions because it shows dancing, drumming, and chanting.
The main character in the movie, Kenai, is given a totem in the shape of a bear. He is told the Great Spirit will guide his life with this figure. He was disappointed because he thought his brother?s eagle seemed more important. After a scene in which he and his brothers get into a fight with a bear, his brother Spirit then turns Kenai into a bear so he can see what it is like. As a bear, he is befriended by a bear cub, Koda, who has lost his mother. He tells Koda he has to find the ?place where the lights meet the mountains? because the shaman said he must go there to become human again. As they travel together, Kenai learns how it is to be an animal and how their life is sacred too. He sees how they help each other such as the scene in which they ride on a mammoth?s back so hunters will not see their tracks. They found the magic place where there were animal carvings and prints on the cave. They camp there and tell stories around a fire. Koda tells a story of how he and his mother became separated, and Kenai realizes Koda?s mom is the one he killed. Kenai?s other brother then finds them and tries to kill them, but Koda saves Kenai. Then the Great Spirit gave Kenai the choice to be human again, but he wanted to stay with Koda because he said his ?little brother? needed him.
This movie has a great story line, and it relates to Native American religion in many ways. The story relayed how much faith the Native American people put in nature, shamans, and the Great Spirit. It also showed symbolism such as the totems and the carvings in the cave. Also featured were the ways in which Native Americans celebrate new life, whether it is new bear cubs in the wild, or a boy becoming a man by receiving his totem. It also included a cycle of life in that Kenai started as a boy, became a bear, and then stayed a bear because of his love for the animals. It showed how important ancestors were to the Native American people by the emphasis placed on the Great Spirit and Kenai?s brother who died at the beginning of the movie.
I would recommend this movie to anyone wanting to learn about indigenous religions or anyone just wanting a good, wholesome story.

The movie Brother Bear is a great coming of age adventure movie where every scene drawn beautifully represents a tribe of Indians living in a mountainous region. The quality of sound and the drawings match perfectly to this great story and really give you an amazing movie experi...( read more)ence. This movie is rated U for Universal and is approximately an hour and twenty one minutes long. Some of my favorite highlights from this movie are the comedic Canadian moose brothers who constantly bicker with each other. Another highlight that I feel is important is when one of the main characters Kenai is transformed into a bear and has to live life through the eyes of a bear. While he is a bear he meets up with a cute baby cub named Koda who teaches him about the ways of a bear. The main plot of this movie is for the main character Kenai to discover who he really is and the only way that he can find out is through a magical event that changes him into a bear. In his new form he must learn to see perspectives in a new and exciting way that he was previously blinded to. This new form helps guide Kenai into seeing the world beyond his own and all while making great new and exciting friends. Kenai learns that for every action taken in nature there is a positive or negative result which explains the purpose of the character Koda. At the end of the movie Kenai is forced to decide what form he must take to resolve issues made in nature and ultimately become a man.

This movie relates to World Religions because it is full of mysticism and magic. The Shaman in this movie visits the mountain where the lights touch the earth where she communicates with nature and spirits. She then takes this knowledge to the tribe to guide the men of coming age with a totem. This is a way for the indigenous people to give reasons behind the unexplainable lights in the sky. Next Kenai is transformed into a bear in order to learn perspectives blocked to him by his everyday life. This action helps explains that nature is a balance and everything done in nature has an opposite or equal reaction.
