Bug is a conspiracy theory film gone off the deep end. The cast did great work with the script and the stylized shooting worked very well. This film had the potential to be a great film revolving around a government conspiracy, or at least a conspiracy in the mind of a deranged...( read more) individual. It ends being just an average film. The true madness being shared by Agnes and Peter was too rushed and just floundered to a horrible ending.

This is one of the few "horror films" that is actually an "actors film".

By that I mean the characters (there are really only four with any major screen time) are well developed, with the two leads getting the opportunity to REALLY show some range. And it is the two leads (Ju...( read more)dd & Shannon) that really make this film work as well as it does. Which (for me) was good, solid, but not GREAT.

The film succeeds in creating a creepy, claustrophobic, manic environment. However there are moments when the environment (and the acting) seems like "too much" and starts to feel a bit over done...almost cartoonish.

There are a few "gore scenes" that felt sort of tagged on to make it more sellable as a "horror" film. But I feel like the story is intense enough that these scenes ended up cheapening it more then enhancing it.

Michael Shannon (as with Revolutionary Road) "knocks it out of the park". Few people can pull off "obsessive compulsive nut job" like Shannon. Judd is impressive as well, but not as consistently as Shannon.

All in all it is a pretty solid psychological thriller.

it's a good-ish film already but it gets an even better rating just for its pure originality. i've not seen anything like it before!

    A disaster on every level.

Interesting premise to look at paranoid delusions but I just didn't believe Judd's character would be taken in by the delusions of someone in a psychotic state, to the extent shown here.

David Edelstein, New York Magazine

Bug, directed by William Friedkin from Tracy Letts's play, has the feverish compression of live theater and the moody expansiveness of film. The mix is insanely powerful. full review

I was pleasantly surprised, I was expecting this movie to be a flop. I was drawn into the main characters and pleasantly horrified at some of the heightened dramatic parts, and also at the end I had some questions that also needed answered-but I love movies like that. I couldn't help finding myself itching either towards the end. lol

the mother bug sucks! this movie shows just how far a director can fall i guess. 30 years ago he made the excorcist and it was nominated for best picture, now he makes b-movies that can't even turn a profit. oh yeah this movie sucks too!
