Pipkin and his organization became aware of a community in Kenya that had been struggling for years to build a new school; there were no schools for children beyond the eighth grade anywhere nearby, and parents were eager to help their children get a better education and a better life. With the help of American volunteers and the local community, Mahiga Hope High School went from a seemingly impossible dream to a reality where six hundred children are getting an education. Pipkin offers a look at the determination, hard work and belief that made the school possible in the documentary Building Hope. The film received its world premiere at the 2011 South by Southwest Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

It's hard to know if Building Hope should be evaluated as a traditional documentary or as a nonprofit promotional tool. What I do know is this: If you don't well up at least once during this unwaveringly uplifting story, you might be a little dead inside
