Bullet Ballet is a strange film, full of images of gun fetishism and brutal violence. One montage cleverly shows a gun repeatedly being fired intercut with scenes of men at war. It's an interesting statement about man and his ongoing relationship with violence and destruction. Al...( read more)l things considered, man is, after all, the most destructive force on the planet.

The journey that director Tsukamoto takes us on is very similar in tone and content to that of Travis Bickle in Taxi Driver, but where Taxi Driver was entirely from Bickle's perspective, Tsukamoto has chosen to examine not just the central character Goda's situation, but also the dismay of his attackers, and the lives they lead outside of this macho environment. It's this technique that makes Bullet Ballet stand out a bit more than the director's other films.

Fantastic visuals, alludes to other works but is very much its own who gives a fuck seizure inducing beauty.

Strange, very disjointed Japanese gang movie. The cinematography is interesting though.

Tsukamoto really is a hit or miss for me...this felt very uninspired in my opinion. Tsukamoto can be GENIOUS but he can also disappoint...when you watch movies like snake of june, gemini, haze, and even vital (which was underrated in my opinion) and then you see this, it is miss...( read more)ing something, it just comes across as very shallow and dull.

Senseless and meandering. It's kinda cool, but it's pretty dull at the same time - especially if you've already been exposed to a lot of this type of thing. This director seems to be very hit or miss, but he easily belongs right up there with the best from Japan
