As a last hurrah after college, friends Jeff, Karen, Paul, Marcy and Bert embark on a vacation deep into the mountains. Karen's skin starts to bubble and burn as something grows inside her, tunneling beneath her flesh. The group is so repulsed, shocked and sickened watching their friend deteriorate before their eyes; they lock her in a shed to avoid infection. As they debate about how to save her, they look at one another and realize that any one of them could also have it. What soon began as a struggle against the disease turns into a battle against friends, as the fear of contagion drives them to turn on each other. The kids confront the terror of having to kill anyone who comes near them, even if it's their closest friend. The survivors have to find help before they're all killed by the virus, or by the local lynch mob out to destroy anyone who may have come in contact with it.

    This low budget horror thriller opened a lot of doors for director Eli Roth, who later worked with Quentin Tarantino and very clearly is a big fan of "Deliverance" (think violent rednecks and odd kids on porches). The characters in this gory blood feast actually start out somewha...( read more)t believable but, like so often in such movies, lose credibility once things go down the drain. The film is rather nicely shot, its low budget is not visible at all, and definitely has its exciting moments, as well as a few pretty Ewww! scenes. Later on it gets a tad too predictable, fans of the genre probably figure out easily where all that is leading. They should still be the ones who might have the most fun with this, people who can't see blood should most definitely stay away. So, personal preferences are most likely gonna decide how you like this film, there isn't anything bad to say about the cinematography, direction or acting. The final joke is beyond awesome, though.

    The film is just another cliché filled teen horror film. The acting is stupid at best. You really can't give a damn about these irritating vacationers. Deputy Winston is the only remotely funny character.

    You'd expect from a film like this gore beyond your greatest expectations, but everytime something cool happens, the camera goes "blind". The film just gets more stupid during its last half hour. And of course, the film leaves a door open for a sequel...

    average but funny at moments horror due to some interesting characters in it. it's directed by eli roth... the hostel guy. i enjoyed this more than both of the hostel films

    Great horror movie. One of the few from the 2000's that was original and actually a good movie. Props to Eli Roth for doing such a good job. This movie still had that old school 80s feel but encompassed a newer style of film shooting. Definitely recommend this to anybody who's in...( read more)to horror.

    I think this movie has a lot more to offer than you might expect. On the surface, it might seem like just another blood and guts gore film, but it has its own unique style and sense of humor/ Plenty of suspense and gore, Roth definitely proved himself with this movie. If you a...( read more)re familiar with the horror genre, you will notice and appreciate the nods to the masters like Wes Craven and George Romero. This is a well-written, clever, and bloody film that is every bit as infectious and gross as the virus it depicts.
