One of the most important directors working today, and this is his best film to date.
  • February 28, 2007
I don't understand what the fuss was about. I didn't find it all that original, creative or intuitive. Instead, I found it kind of recycled and obvious in theme.
  • February 27, 2007
Most subtle movie I've ever seen.
  • February 25, 2007
A little slow at first but worth staying with as it feels as though there will be a great climax to the film. Don't hold you breath though, I enjoyed the film but the ending, well there really wasn't one. There are two shoclking moments in the film, the first a little upsetting a...( read more)s it's real and the second just comes as such a surprise. Watch it but get ready for a dissapointing end.

all i can say is WHAT THE FUCK PEOPLE????
  • February 21, 2007
    Observant & Haunting!
  • February 14, 2007
A movie that makes mind work more than it should...The main theme ( accept or deny that you are guilty) is smart presented. The freedom to choose the end you like, makes you think of this story quite a few hours.
  • February 13, 2007
This movie is one of the most subdued thrillers ever. It's not perfect in any sense of the word, but certainly very different in atmosphere and presentation.

Admittedly, it is a bit of a letdown. Very little actually happens in the film, and a large portion of the plot is left ...( read more)up to viewer speculation. The true merit of the film lies in its original premise and appearance.

Such a dark film, a modern day noir, great performances and excellent direction, though this may not be for everyone. Well worth watching, make sure you glue yourself to the screen otherwise it gets confusing.

    must watch the credits
  • February 3, 2007
    I really wanna see this!
  • February 3, 2007
Lots of long takes, so you should pay attention. Leaves a little to be desired in the end though.
  • February 3, 2007
Utterly pointless and frustrating. The end does nothing to resolve anything that happened in the course of the film and makes it seem like a total waste of time.
  • January 29, 2007
An unconventional thriller to say the least. It has some interesting ideas but ultimatly the film is very unsatisfying with no actual resolution and far too much is left to audience speculation. In some categories this befits the thriller genre as audiences are expected to know a...( read more)s much or as little as the central figure and it is executed very well. Haneke's framing often makes for unsettling watching making it hard to differentiate between reality, surveillance and dream sequences for a few minutes. Tension is maintained throughout but just due to a lack of resolution or even a formal conclusion the film leaves the audience quite unsatisfied.

nobody hates this it was weird 4 me tho. i dunno waht actually happens!
  • January 16, 2007
Not even worth it for the money shot.
  • January 13, 2007
Hmm....more artsy than entertaining DEFINITELY, and that is good up until the point where it just gets boring, for me at least. Best moment [WARNING/SPOILER]: the suicide scene, using the same idea as Tesis in the real-life filming shot, the one constant shot, making it seem comp...( read more)letely real and utterly horrifying.
  • January 11, 2007
an intense and very subtle thriller that requires repeat viewing. at first it seems like your conventional thriller about a family who recieves videos and disturbing pictures, but this film provides an attack on society and all of us as people and what we are like and just how pr...( read more)edujice we are. the two main characters (played brilliantly) represent everyone in society and just how crap we all are.
  • January 7, 2007
Haneke's style is visceral and cinematic like rare films made nowadays.
  • January 5, 2007
At first I thought it was Haneke's most commercial work to date, but this impression vanished as soon as the film ended. Like he did previously with Funny Games but in much more elegant and subtle way, in Caché Haneke plays with the audience's expectations using the thriller genr...( read more)e, in Funny Games he used serial killers. Also, like with Code Unknown, he raises several questions but the film is more interested in how the characters behave than with plot, those who aren't used to his work be warned, this isn't Hollywood cinema and the script hardly follows the usual rules of commercial cinema. Although perhaps his most accessible film to date, it also has one particular scene that, when i saw it at the cinema's, left everyones jaw dropped.
Although i liked it as much as i did, i dont think i could recommend it to anyone. Its a subtle thriller that raises many questions, but dont think that any of them will be answeres.

A suspense thriller like you've never seen before.
  • January 2, 2007
    Particularly boring.
  • January 1, 2007
Thank goodness someone helped me out with the ending (apparently, I blinked). But now that I know what I missed at the end, it's a good movie.

Really have to concentrate in this one, watching it twice would be a good idea. Clever, bit haunting but it brings up some good points to ponder on.

A gripping film from beginning to end, Cache raises questions about guilt and responsibility for one's actions. It starts as a creepy suspense thriller when Georges (Auteuil) receives surveillance-esque video tapes of his house and life, accompanied by frightening child-like draw...( read more)ings. The tapes lead to George's past, forcing him to confront mistakes he made as a 6 year old. The burning question is should he feel responsible for the things he did then and if not, does that make him exempt from responsibility now? A very good mystery film with fabulous performances by Auteuil & Binoche (looking older, yes).

A good psychological thriller with a good cast ! But, didn't really like the ending.

This movie was riveting, it left the entire audience is awe, expecting and wanting more.

    Looks like a top-notch thriller.
  • December 12, 2006
    Quiet and heart-thumping (and French!)
  • December 5, 2006
This film looks alright , i would like to see it!
  • December 5, 2006
Good example of modern french realism.

A truely great thriller. But as many reviews and critics have said: blink and you'll miss the twist.

I for one, did not miss the twist and it was a great feeling of knowing and satisfation. It is a fantastic film, with its quick and unforgiving scenes of violence (it's the f...( read more)irst time that I have actually been sat in a cinema where the whole audience gasped at a particular scene, but I don't want to spoil it, now do I?), the only two bad points for the film are the videos that the family are sent: they are too long and especially the first one. It's on for so long you feel like walking out but then at the last moment it picks up and gets interesting. But this is also clever. It builds tension subconsciously. Very clever.

This is a very clever film.

I have actually edited this review. This film takes a while to ponder over ... or at least repeated viewings, but with the DVD being £18-£20 since day of release I have not had this option. But on writing this review on the night of seeing the film (which was months ago), I have changed my mind on somethings, I felt the long surveilance shots where too long and tedious. But I now appreciate their genius. Also, I didn't understand the end, but I have thought about what I saw and might have seen and I am now completely satisfied with the ending ;-).

    Go see this now!

Eerily perfect in every aspect, except for the story and script, which are too subtly presented for the audience to keep up with, and the ending is very unsatisfying. But all in all I liked this film, although few will. I thought it was very unsettling and masterfully made, perha...( read more)ps though the director should have put more thought into what his audience would want to see.

Great movie by Haneke. This guy is in my opinion one of the most underated director of all time.
  • November 25, 2006
Great movie with an outsanding, superbe Daniel Auteuil. One scene spécialmeent freaked me but the whole story was well written. UN bé-mol, la fin, too abrupt...

This is a movie to be seen by people who understand french cinema but still i found it very disapointing. It's reall sad that a movie with such an important and imaginative topic which can be played with in many ways coming with many ideas was contented by just keeping it narrowe...( read more)d to simple and sometimes boring things. The idea of voyeur and the fear of being filmed when you dont know is scary and they could have added per exemple videos of the two couples in their intimate moments which could have added the psycho sense to the movie. And plus we feel that the relation between the couple was already shaky before the start of the videos so we didn't feel true love between them and the attitude of the son was completetly unexplained and unnecessary. But the one thing that helped the movie was the direction of michael Haneke who really raised the tension in an unimaginable way. Just showing the house with all the quiet around it really makes us feel nervous and the scene with the headless chicken jumping around was very distrubing and i had to close my eyes. But my biggest disapointement was the unexpectadely weak performences of such two iconic french actors Daniel Auteuil and Juliette Binoch. This movie should have been a revelation for them to give their best but they wre so pale and didnt give their usual energie such in

    So fricken mysterious..it's annoying..
  • November 22, 2006
A good cast, a good movie...and Juliette Binoche.
  • November 20, 2006
I didn't quite get the reviews on front of the DVD. 5 stars, 4 stars brilliant. I just didn't see it. A lot of the themes and the plot within Hidden, seemed all too familar too me. The stalker thing has been done soo many times and the who dunnit things as well, just put me righ...( read more)t off.

There were some good things in this movie though. The performances of Juliette Binoche and Daniel Auteuil certainly were the heart of the film for me, without them the filow would have been beloe average. I enjoyed the camera work, very unique style. Just fixated on one place for several minutes, very good

By the end of the film though, i still didn't work out who exactly was the stalker and what exactly was the ending.

Overall, a average thriller which has some Hitchcok influences. If you like Michael Haneke's work then you'll enjoy this

The first great film of the century??
  • November 14, 2006
Irritating dialogue lets it down, but maybe that's from ad-libbing?

Intrigued by a 'friends' review... Wanna see...
