A slow clever thriller about guilt and shame. A subtle and powerful film.
  • June 18, 2009
Really frustrating and intense, but ultimately anti-climactic. This film was very shocking and disturbing and worth watching.

This is not your straight-forward American thriller or suspense. This is, without a doubt, a "European? film, that presents itself as a curiosity, as its premise is ripe with questions & hypotheses, but unlike its American counterparts, provides no easy answers. In fact, as I pre...( read more)pared myself for a scene in which the ultimate culprit behind all of the misdoings in the film was apparently going to be revealed, its end credits started to roll, leaving me with that "what the ???" look on my face...
I saw this movie by myself, so I wasn't able to discuss my theories with anyone afterwards, but if that's what you enjoy doing, this might be just the type of film that you will want to see with someone who also likes dissecting films after a viewing. I liked the movie overall, really loved its direction & actors, and was pretty caught up all the way through. That said,
" BE WARNED, IT'S DEFINITELY NOT FOR EVERYONE"!!!

Cache is full of amazing yet subtle moments and it fully requires audience participation.
  • March 18, 2009
This movie was bizzare and creepy but never reveals itself fully. Kind of a disappointing ending but it kept me intrigued.

I have a newfound respect for the tension Haneke builds in this film. Watch it a couple times. You'll get it.
If you don't, you like Carlos Mencia or suck.

Such a waste of time, talent, work, money, etc. The director comes out and said that this story can be told in any country, well of course, 5 minutes in any talk show like Oprah will be enough. the rest as he said can be told in any survaillance camera. minute after minute figuri...( read more)ng out how is it that the actors are having coffee, or just making a call. What's the point in praising this kind of film just for convincing good actors to work in it? The argument is good, but the story is good, but is pointless by expressing it with such dull perspective and lack of directing skills.

    Haneke's best movie.

Interesting thought provoking anti-thriller. Disturbing, opaque and bleak.

Tense and unsettling tale of the past catching up with you, with a nicely ambiguous ending. Little happens or is resolved which can be off putting. Certainly an enigma if not terrifically enjoyable.

The horror. I love to think of this film like the director is sending the tapes him self. This may be true and warents another watch.

i'm sorry to say i think this definitely the worst movie i have ever seen. news flash: watching security tapes of the outside of someone's home, watching cars occasionally go by every few minutes, for seven minutes straight is not what i would call entertaining. those random scen...( read more)es made the film even worse than it already was, not to mention it made the film drag on forever. regrettably, i sat though the entire movie, hoping that SOMETHING would happen, but no. at the end there's just another one of those random extreme long shots of some building, leaving me with no idea what the purpose, theme, or plot of the movie actually was. maybe i'm just not smart enough to figure out the film, but in my opinion, it flat out sucked. sorry.

People who know Michael Haneke must know that all his movies are a little pretentious and most of them are a critic to the society and the media (ex. Funny Games).

Cache (Hidden) isn´t the exception, the film moves at slow pace and has some "holy-shit" scen

mind-numbing. People have called it brilliant and maybe I wasn't just seeing it, but about half the movie is just some street being filmed with nothing going on. When the story did come up it was interesting but with such gaps between story it made it rather annoying to watch.

Un esemp...( read more)io? "The first great film of the 21st Century" - well, that's what it says on the cover of the dvd. I think this is the first sub-titled film for me, that seems to lose something in translation. Everything I really dislike about Michael Haneke and his movies. Dull, self-important and unbearably pretentious.

Michael Haneke is a very interesting filmmaker, in that he makes films the mass public absolutley loathes and that most other people don't love but certainly appreciate. First of all, let's give credit where credit is due, Daniel Auteuil and Juliette Binoche both give sensational performances, the better of the two obviously being Auteuil who brings a sense of humanity and guilt to his character uncommon in most thrillers. The thing that really bothered me about this film is how real it was. The brutal-to-sit-through long-takes Haneke is famous for is what opens the film and while certainly interesting after about 2 minutes or so I started to lose interest. In the end, there is really no resolution. I was expecting a thriller and got a drama about the intricatcies of humanity. Maybe if I went into it knowing that I would have enjoyed it more. As it stands, Cache was a well-made film but certainly nothing brilliant, groundbreaking or remotely memorable. Grade: B-
