Good ole Doris Day. This is just a great rollicking fun piece of film. The songs are well known, especially Secret Love (I think everyone knows this song!) Bit of a rehash of Annie Get Your Gun, but hey...its stands on its own, and will be a favourite for me.
I am clearly musical-starved, because I enjoyed this far more than I should have. Heh. It's your typical 1950s musical. (Bears an uncanny resemblance to Annie Get Your Gun.) The songs are fun but not spectacular or very memorable. Overall, one of those movies that gets lost among all the dozens of others just exactly like it.
A very cute musical I loved as I was growing up. Doris Day is lovable as always, even when she's in the wrong. Howard Keel is the perfect choice to play opposite her as Wild Bill Hickok. The Lieutenant couldn't handle this firecracker anyhow!
Doris at her best, in this fun musical with Howard Keel.. Introduced the beautiful song "Secret Love" which became a gay anthem in the oppressive 50s and early 60s. A fun-filled "western" from within the town of Deadwood South Dakota.
Yes I might over rating it but I love this movie! It is funny and has some great catchy musical numbers and man did I watch it a lot a child. Yes it's an old musical but live with it i've watched alot!
No other movie makes me smile, sing or want to dance more than Calamity Jane. Howard Keel is deinfately my hero in this movie and it has quickly become one of my favorite movies and deserves its place at the frontline of my dvd collection!
This used to be my favourite film, and is still one of my all-time favourites. I know it's a bit cheesy, but it's timeless and the songs are brilliant!!
A great fun film/musical. Pure entertainment for the whole family. The songs played a great role in my youth (we were a bit of a sing along family) and having just watched this film again 30 years or so later, I still know all the words.
Fantastic.
Very Funny Movie...
when i was younger i used to get called Calamity Jane by my Teachers at school n my parents n i never new what they where talkin about until i saw this move (TOMBOY TILL I DIE I GUESS LOL)
Doris Day provides the comical performance of the tomboy cowgirl Calamity Jane. Howard Keel provides the fine performace of Bill and the songs are catchy and fun to follow.
