Great and encouraging movie for those of us women, who`re not young any longer. Living in this youth, looks and aged focus world, where a woman is usually valued on her looks and age and not on her qualities and personality, isn`t easy.

i loved this movie! i laughed my butt off, it was so funny. i loved the fact that even though these ladies were old it didn't stop them from doing something that they knew would cause some controversy.

A group of women who fall into the 'getting on a bit but you still would, wouldn't you' category get their kits off for a cheeky calendar to raise money for charity. Based on a true story.

The smell of the perfume in the audience made me physically sick, but it didn't ruin the quality of the film (Y)

I give it credit for being a bit different and that, but it did have a lot of boring and quite frankly- dull bits to it.

It was one of those feel good films that I see so many of - usually made for BBC tv productions - such as Driving School and Ballet Shoes, but nonetheless the film was ace and covered all aspects magnificently.

A sort of feminine, middle-aged version of The Full Monty. The same kind of delightful, full of great one-liners and quirky character-based comedy. Affable, amusing, and highly diverting piece of British whimsy and with two excellent lead performances from Helen Mirren and Julie Walters. Fun and harmless.

Very cute movie. I liked the unique poses that allowed them to bare all without showing too much. The British tongue is a bit hard to understand sometimes, but it also added a primness to the roles. Very entertaining.

Funny, delightful movie about friendship, female empowerment, and the superficiality of Hollywood (not that that's much of a stretch). As with most English comedies I've seen, the humor (or humour, as it were) really hinges on the characters themselves, placing "proper" English ladies in an "improper" situation. Helen Mirren and her friends are sly, droll, and what's really great, naturally sexy. It's refreshing to see a movie where middle-aged women are treated as real women and not just caricatures of middle-aged women. Movies abound with male actors very long in the tooth (see Jack Nicholson or Sean Connery) who are still treated as attractive and desirable, but there's a dearth of those same roles for women. This one's a nice addition to help balance out the inequity. Fun and funny throughout.

This one has been on the backburner for so long I'd almost forgotten about it. Older women taking their clothes off? Naaah. Well, boy was I wrong. It was funny, sweet, tasteful and delightfully British. Great performances all round and to know that it's based on a true story makes it all that more inspiring. Really nice to see Helen Mirren branch out into comedy too. Fun chick flick.

To think that this is a true story, makes it even more hilarious. Beautiful performance by Helen Mirren and Annette Crosbie. I loved every minute of it!

    Plot Outline:
Calendar Girls is about the women of the Rylstone Women's Institute in North Yorkshire. This Women's Group produces a calendar each year based around scenes of the Yorkshire dales. In 1999, one of the ladies husbands became ill with leukemia. He would say that if the ladies planted Sunflowers, he'd make sure he'd get better so he could see them. Unfortunately, he didn't pull through and in order to raise funds for Leukemia research the women decided to make an alternative calendar of themselves in the nude hoping to sell a few hundred copies around their villages. This calendar in fact became a worldwide sensation, out-selling even those of Britney Spears and Cindy Crawford.

A superb true story about middle aged eh, actually older than that, women - it's not too often we get to see that. The cast is great and I really like the movie.

Directed by: Nigel Cole.Starring: Helen Mirren, Annette Crosbie, Philip Glenister, Celia Imrie, John-Paul Macleod.

Based on a true story, it follows the basic story of the group of women with added filmmaking structure, problem is it is very simplistic and cliched, but it works brilliantly as a feel-good British comedy.

The story follows the true story a Women's Institute in a small town in England where a group of ladies are fed up with the dull topics they cover every month, after one of the groups husbands is diagnosed with Leukemia, they decide on doing a nude calendar for charity and in the process, become international stars. Like I said before, the problem is is that it is just a little to simplistic and it follows that same cliched formula that 100's of films follow every year, but that is the only downside. We have sharp humour, brilliant one-liners and what can only be said as brilliant top-notch performances from Helen Mirren and Julie Walters, who both add charm to the film.

I certainly smiled all through the film, the humour is consistent and very sly, cheeky and certainly mature, the one-liners are hits and there are great performances to be had by all the leading females, especially Helen Mirren and Julie Walters. A charming, hilarious, feel-good comedy that just has the problem of being very formulaic and simplistic.
