The story, based on the Nobel Prize-winning novel, Miracle Alley, takes place in a rundown neighborhood in Mexico City where three people’s lives meet and intertwine. Rutilio, owner of the local canteen, finds himself frustrated in his marriage with Eusebia and discovers new yet strange personal feelings. The young barber, Abel, along with Don Fidel, are both in love with the beautiful and sensuous Alma (Salma Hayek), daughter of Cata, the tarot reader. Susanita, a dreaming spinster, looks for love but in reality falls prey to a thief. As their paths gradually cross, the characters are temporarily condemned to a tragic and solemn future. The desperate characters are struggling to escape their circumstances in any way they can but the only one thing they have in common is that, in the end, none of them gets what they really want.

  An ok movie... must be Salma Hayek's favorite though, it launched her into international fame... thanks to director Jorge Fons, whose not mentioned in the herein credits (Flixster's credits). Jorge Fons directed this film, same director of 1989's ROJO AMANECER (RED DAWN), and writen for the big screen by Vicente Leñero. ------>

  Buena película. Seguramente fue la madre de todos los guiones de Guillermo Arriaga. Es buena, y diferente. Actuaciones buenas.

  dios mio quien le dijo a salma hayek que actuaba, por el amor de dios pobre en actuacion la pelicula y una historia muy vieja en una epoca posterior da esa impresion quisieron tomar el mexico antiguo y hacer una pelicula un poco mas perversa y se quedo corta

  La mejor película mexicana de los noventa, hecha en tiempos en los que la industria atravesaba por una gran crisis. Una trama escrita por un egipcio que cuenta historias que pueden ser encontradas en cualquier parte del mundo.

  una misma historia con diferentes puntos de vista. aunque tengo mis problemas con una parte del cast. es sin duda una buenisima pelicula.
