Katharine Isabelle, Angela Bettis, Patricia Clarkson

Nobody would argue with the thought that Sissy Spacek is the perfect heroine of Stephen King's scary tale of teenage telekinesis. But in a pinch, Angela Bettis, the star of this 2002 TV remake, fills ...( read more  read more... )Spacek's bloody shoes very well. Bettis--who expertly plays a similar role in the indie horror pic May--gets all the loner pathos of poor Carrie White, equally tormented by her cool classmates and her religious-fanatic mom (Patricia Clarkson). Her transformation from doormat to vengeful prom queen remains surefire wish fulfillment for anyone who ever felt a misfit in high school. Despite Bettis's intensity, it's difficult to justify remaking Carrie when Brian De Palma's 1976 version is enshrined as a classic of its kind (especially given the pedestrian TV-movie production values on display here). This one delivers its jolts, but when you could just as easily spend time with Spacek and De Palma, why bother? --Robert Horton

I think everyone knows the story of Carrie. The strange innocent misfit who's teased mercilessly and maliciously by a few of her school peers. and develops her telekinetic powers to protect herself after a particularly cruel and humiliating prank is pulled on her.

Well, I think ...( read more)I enjoyed this because it put a different spin on the original story. That is, the story is told after the fact in a series of interviews conducted by the police.

The movie has a good cast and the script is good. The special effects, while used to good effect, aren't particularly 'special', but the camera work, particularly in the ballroom scene when everyone is panicking, is deplorable. I've taken better home movies. Still, if you can ignore that....

Overall I really enjoyed this telemovie and would recommend it to anyone who wants a bit of a scare and to be entertained, and not

I'll probably be burned at the stake for this too, but I preferred Angela Bettis charactisation of Carrie to Sissy Spaceks in the original.

I have no idea how to describe my feelings towards this one. The original, in my opinion, wasn't as good as everybody thinks. I think Sissy Spacek was flawless, mesmerizing and hypnotic. But the entire cast was not good, Piper Laurie was annoying and the movie over all was kind o...( read more)f lame. The remake, however, has a extraordinary performance by Angela Bettis, a nice cast, excellent visuals and just the right amount of changes to the novel and original movie to raise everything up and, over all, a fantastic performance by Patricia Clarkson, absolutely better than Piper Laurie, of course.

What should I think? I don't believe in that "respect" towards the original crap everybody barks about everytime a remake appears but, let's face it, this is a weird remake: who would remake "Carrie"?

Well, it worked for me. And very well, actually. Angela Bettis didn't make me forget about Spacek but Patricia Clarkson made me wish I could digitally insert her in the original or Spacek in the new one and make a hell-of-a-movie.

OK, but pointless. The only reason to remake a film is to make a mediocre film better, whether by better performances or newer technology. The original film version of Stephen King's novel of the same name is arguably a horror classic. Remaking it is a waste of film stock, money ...( read more)and time. Angela Bettis wasn't a bad Carrie White, but she didn't seem as naive or tortured as Sissy Spacek did in the original. The early scene that sets the stage for the events to come -- naive Carrie's discovery that she's started her first menstrual period and being taunted by her classmated for it -- should have had Carrie in hysterics, and instead she just laid on the floor of the shower and stared. And every time she had a telekinetic moment, she appeared to just be carsick. Patricia Clarkson's "lamb of God" performance as Carrie's religious zealot mother Margaret doesn't hold a candle to Piper Laurie's maniacal "fire and brimstone" portrayal. The actress playing Sue Snell was arrogant and defiant when she should have been regretful and confused. All the other characters were just average. The story arc and script both followed the original pretty closely, up until the end. The final confrontation between Carrie and her mother was totally off the mark and anticlimatic. And while the original ending was a shocker for the ages, this one was just confusing. The film wasn't helped by piss-poor CGI and obvious back- projection work. To use a line from the film "Creepy Carrie!" Stick with the original.

Everyone has a breaking point. Pray that Carrie White doesn't reach hers. Carrie White is a lonely, awkward teenage girl who just doesn't fit in. At school, she endures her classmates' constant ridicule, and at home she suffers endless psychological torture at the hands of her fa...( read more)natically religious mother. She's been cursed with the horrifying power of telekinesis, and when her tormentors commit an act of unforgivingly cruel humiliation at the prom, they'll soon learn one deadly lesson... If you mess with fire, you will get burned!

Carrie is directed by David Carson and features good acting performances from the following cast:
    1.) Angela Bettis (Carrie White)
    2.) Patricia Clarkson (Margaret White)
    3.) Rena Sofer (Ms. Desjarden)
    4.) Kandyse McClure (Sue Snell)
5.) Emile De Ravin (Chris Hargensen)
    6.) Tobias Mehler (Tommy Ross)
    7.) Jesse Cadotte (Billy Nolan)

We've all heard of the familiar horror tale of Carrie, originally penned by Stephen King: A girl is taunted by the kids at school and lives with a religious nut mom. She gains telekinetic powers and uses them to kill everybody at the school dance, the moment blood is spilled on her. While I'm pleased that this 2002 Carrie remake was mostly faithful to the original book, I found the events leading to prom night and after were mostly soap opera. But nevertheless, I think this is a good film worth watching. I never knew that I was actually watching a TV pilot of an actual series that never got off the ground, and I was glad to see the titular character wrecking destruction in town. The acting's good - I think Angela Bettis played a good Carrie character, although I prefer Sissy Spacek's role better. And so does the 1976 original film...let's not forget that.

I liked how it had that kind of high school/bully theme. I haven't seen the original, and I've heard it's really good. This doesn't really scare you, and it's got some really bad acting. The plot's decent, but nothing I would call excellent. The dialogue is a bit rough. I liked th...( read more)e atmosphere created with Carrie and he mother. The horror scenes try to be scary, but end up being really laughable. This is hardly a film that I would reccomend, but there are small elements that I would consider enough for a rental if you wanted to see it.

Stephen King movies are never as full of fear and suspense as his novels but this was one of the better movies because it deals with this girl`s life and emotional distress more than it relies on the terror of imagination. This movie makes a great case for treating animal killers...( read more) as murderers. Be nice, dumb, cruel teens!
