Interesting film! I have to say I could really identify with the main character Ben, we have a lot in common! I also went to art school, went through bouts of insomnia, esp after one particular break up, I have been trapped in several tedious retail jobs and I have an appreciatio...( read more)n for the naked female body (artistically of course!). I also, from the ages of 5-12, systematically fell in love with everyone of the foreign students who rented a room from my parents. This all helped me enjoy the film a great deal, the idea of stopping time, enjoying the quieter moments, appreciating the simpler things in life, I?m guilty of all of them. If Sean Ellis had just concentrated on the story as much as he did the brilliant effects, this would have been a four and a half, maybe even five star film for me. The main problems were as follows: a) The brilliant and inventive visual effects were only saved for the lesser important scenes. As beautiful as they were, they took away from the story. b) The time line didn?t make any sense. If Ben and his friend were around 6 years old in the mid 70?s, he would be around 30 in the mid 90?s and not 18 as the film depicts. c) Worst of all, Cashback suffers from the curse of the British film. The casting is OK for the best part but characters like Ben?s boss, his two idiotic workmates and Brian 'Kung-Fu' were an unwelcome, and poor attempt at humour. Put that together with the still life model farting and the ?Getting ready to go out scene? and you might as well have taped a rubbish sitcom over the middle of the film by mistake. All forgivable but it takes a star off the final rating. It still scores high due to the brilliant effects and it?s familiar premise. Oh, and the (artistic) nudity.

I can't imagine any male NOT liking this movie. I have never seen so much tits & ass in a movie!
Anyway, the story was worth hearing and Emilia Fox has definitely not stolen her last name. Lovely to see Sean Biggerstaff in an other movie than Harry Potter...( read more) or The Winter Guest. He was perfect in this role. Oscar nomination was maybe a bit exaggerated? Decide for yourself!

Just excellent, it is a creative and artistic movie with surrealistics features that make it so likely. I found all details were carefully kept. The end is just perfect. The only defect is the vulgarity and pornography of a few scenes that steal a great part of the romanticism an...( read more)d innocence of love.

Supposedly "artsy" but waaay too much nudity than one would expect. I enjoyed the narration by Ben about his experience with insomnia. Very funny verbal exchanges and interesting manipulation of cinematic effects.

I really donīt understand how can someone see art and beauty in such a movie!
Get "American Pie" or any other movie alike and add stupid soundtrack to give the characterīs silly break up/insomnia/life an artistic and dramatic (??) view. Were that instrumental songs supposed to m...( read more)ake us feel sorry or connected to the characterīs "drama"? Honestly, it made me laugh. Later, I thought it could be really a joke to use the typical songs to specific moments/characters, but nope.

Half star for the paitings/drawings at the exposition in the last minutes of the movie.
