Very moving portrayal of the real persons life. I wasn't in the right frame of mind to watch this as I think had I not been so fidgety, I would've enjoyed it more. Worth watching though.
Another real life story, Will u hv the heart to forgive the enemy who wreck yr family & life? Me?...I Doubt so. An eye for an eye. Blood 4 blood, Dust to dust. RIP
A very hard film to watch knowing that this was probably a fraction of the horror experienced by the real life people the film portray but it was a very good film. Luke and Robbins were awesome.
Real-life story of Patrick Chamusso, a political thriller about South Africa's turbulent yeas from 1980s to the present day. An oil refinery employee and his wife are brutalized by government-sanctioned terror squads. Patrick reorients his sense of self and purpose. Patrick becomes a rebel fighter and political operative, staging daring solo attacks against the brutal apartheid regime. Change must and will come.
welll acted. good solid story as you would expect in a true story. its refreshing to see a real film about souh africa where the character does actually get involved in the uprising, rather than seeing films about blacks who get arrested for being black. Don't misunderstand me, i know they are an apressed people and they hjave my support, what happened back then in africa will never be forgotten or can the whites ever be forgiven and neither should they. although the character is not a violent man far from it, he just gets fed up with being repressed. and sacrifices his life to do so. well worth seeing.
Based on a true story, and that makes it an interesting film.
South Africa in the 80īs. This is the story about a guy who is not politically active until certain events makes him ready to fight the system.
Again Tim Robbins is performing extrememly well. Thing about him, is that you are never really sure if he is a bad guy or not.
"My children, when they speak of their father, they will say he was a man who stood up for what was right, a man who said he must do something now. What will your children say about you?" - Patrick Chamusso
This movie was a great story. It has a meaningful plot that leaves you feeling drained and questioning the human spirit. Brilliant acting from the cast making it feel you are in the story. A brilliant movie that everyone should see.
i have to say that this is an excellent film. without too much high tech fanfare, it tells an interesting story set in the dark ages of south africa's recent past. without too much overtone, it give one a flavor for the struggle, the people and the outcome. its interesting to imagine how it fits into the current landscape coming on the heals of cry freedom and others when the apartied era has recceeded and the current chaos reigns.
I really like true stories. This one is a story about a black man named Patrick who only wants what is best for him and his family. Then he joins the fridom fighters, to firght for what is right.
The bench mark for South African Aperteid films was set with the brillant Cry Freedom. Since then there has been few films made on the subject. Catch A Fire is a well told story. Tim Robbins is a great actor but miscast, seems nerves with the accent, also it is hard to work out his motive and generally the monatone speech is a problem. Derek Luke does well, but the lack of pace, energy and emotion, fails to grip the casual viewer of the important true story.
Good, not great. Not the sort of film I would prefer, but the musical interludes with Tim Robbins add a comic touch to the brutal proceedings. Derek Luke is great, but handheld camera's and a more raw kind of cinematography were needed to give the film the atmosphere it was attempting to create
Following on my comments on African based films and the need for a white hollywood superstar, along comes a nugget. Yes, Tim Robbins is in it but his role is supporting and the character necessary to the plot. And as if to prove my point the film is cracking as well.
A very enjoyable watch and a great story of what lengths people will go to in order to be free, the movie was shot very well using a technique of going from happy calm scenery to dark dramatic landscapes, two very good performances from Derek Luke & Tim Robbins and a very good solid movie.
Inspiring, real-life account; every angle is a heartpounding journey. the political facet is relative to the surrounding world today. It has power throughout.
The story takes place in South Africa during the early 80's. When a hard working family man is accused of being a terroist, he is tortured and then released when his innocence is unmistakably. He then decides to join the terroist and plots to blow up the refinery he formerly worked in. It's a powerful and emotional movie.
if you want th struggle of a man because of the mistreatment of his family then yo have got it this is the tale of that man as well as a show for the othrs like him it does well to look at his misfortune and take note because it is done without regret but with brutality and cruelty
Good movie with solid acting, draws the viewer into the world of South African aparttheid. Even though I really liked this film, I feel like with it's PG13 rating, the movie certainly pulled some punches. Scenes with the interrogation of the Derek Luke character would have been more powerful if Noyce had shown a little more of what he went through--but this is a minor criticsm. Robbins is good, but not great, in his role as a conflicted White man desperately trying to hold onto power in a nation brimming with people crying out for equality.
