Silly fun. Evil cats versus good dogs in a real animal / CG SFX mash-up movie.

America, America. The land of the free. Well somebody needs to take the Guterman's freedom away and throw it into a dark abyss.

Now when I was a young lass of nine or ten, this came out in cinemas. I actually went to see it with my parents. I mean, wasted money. Not to mention ...( read more)a Saturday afternoon.

Why is it so crap? First off, the script is so clumsy it could have been written by a two year old, the actors are so annoying I could take a machine gun to any one of them, and the story is pathetic. But I won't add it to 'Worst Movies', because the dog was pretty cute and well animated. Let's add a star for the poor canine.

Why do directors insist on choosing child actors who grind peoples gears until they want to scream? We had the Olsens, we had Lindsay Lohan, we have that annoying little shit from 'Evan Almighty' ... and here we are presented with Alexander Pollock. Oh. My. God.

    I call this animal exploitation.

Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times

So advanced are the special effects techniques that the filmmakers even combine animated faces with real animal bodies, with such uncanny skill that after awhile you give up trying to find the seams. full review

Stephanie Zacharek, Salon.com

An hour and a half of giddy, ridiculous fun. full review

There is enough dopey, exuberant fun to delight children without driving their parents completely crazy. full review
