Critic Reviews

  • Emanuel Levy, Variety

Assuming that every generation needs its own dance film, Hytner revists the turf of films like Turning Point (classic ballet), Chrous Line (Broadway dancing) and Saturday Night Fever (disco) and blends together their themes and persona to little effect.

  • Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times

Center Stage has moments of joy and moments of insight.

  • Lisa Schwarzbaum, Entertainment Weekly

Center Stage is the same old stuff, not an arabesque more.

  • Joe Baltake, Sacramento Bee

Both too high-minded and too low-minded.

  • Jay Carr, Boston Globe

Anybody who's ever laced on toe shoes, or wanted to, will find something to take away from Center Stage.

Love this movie. Anything that is about dancing I usually like and this movie was one of them.
