Unforgettable opening sequence. It always amazed me that a simple biopic about 2 runners could be so riveting. There's a fair bit of historical inaccuracy in it in the name of drama and politics, but the film certainly carrys you along. Who can forget, "They will run and not grow...( read more) weary. They will ride with wings of eagles." after seeing this film? [Isaiah 40]. It is notable that not only does the US version lack the cricket scene at the beginning of the film, it also adds an introduction to Cambridge absent in the other version, though it's a Cambridge that frankly scares the pants off me it is so full of mutants (post war injuries and all that).

Excellent movie about faith, determination, and life. This is a movie that proves that a boat load of special effects and explosions aren't needed to make a great movie.

about a couple of hours of pride associated wanking yourself off for being british (if you're british). if you're not this probably won't interest you much at all. ian holm isn't quite as annoying as he sometimes can be which is a plus. there's not really much more you can say ab...( read more)out it. makes me think a bit of gallipoli because mel gibson and some other guy did a bit of running in that before it got down to the fighting. it was alright. not my cup of tea!

This is certainly one of the blandest of the best picture winners. It's a good story with fine acting, good production values, subtly directed. But it just isn't best picture material. The period detail and flavor is commendable.
