Tim Burton brings nothing to one of the most famous children's book of all time about a poor boy who wins a life-changing trip to a magical factory.
Charlie's characterisation is dumped after half an hour, the Oompa Loompas are even more disturbing than in the 1971 version, the visuals are underwhelming and too computerised, and there is an awkward, unnecessary sub-plot about Willy Wonka's father.
Johnny Depp's performance as Wonka is bizarre and misjudged. Where in the book Willy Wonka is insane, in a megalomaniac kind of way, now he is insane in that he might accidentally poo himself, and he's also a moron, so it is very hard to believe he can create anything.
Save yourself the effort, and read the book. If Tim Burton really wanted a go at something, how about adapting the sequel?
Nice. Johnny Depp sort of puts on the Michael Jackson act, but still, a nice film to watch. Way different from the original. I couldn't decide too compare them, or rate them seperately because of their different contexts.

Cute, effects were good, actors were great all except one. No offense but I really don't like how Johny Depp portrayed Willie Wonka. I wish he made Willie a lot more kind and down to earth. The person he played was just too cold for my liking.
Johnny Depp like you've never seen him before. This is the only time I've seen him gone bonkers in a quirky way, but since it's Tim Burton, I really liked it.
It's incredible. What pops out of Tim Burton's mind is pure genius. It's amazing that most of the set was real. Johnny Depp can be such a comedic and proves that he can morph into anything and anyone.
I Love the book and I think thats why I love this movie so much. It's hilarious and Willy Wonka is just such and facinating character. And Johnny Depp did an amazing job portraying him.
