But the affair is abruptly halted when Peter is called back into service and his plane is shot down over France. If he is alive, he is probably hiding, sheltered by the French Resistance. Soon, Charlotte is also on her way to France, for like many women fluent in French, she has been recruited as a secret agent, working to support the Resistance. She could have asked for an assignment at home, but instead she jettisons fear, accepting a dangerous mission behind enemy lines, keeping secret her personal mission to find her missing lover. In a world where secrecy is all around, she discovers that she can only trust what is in her heart.

Such a different perspective on a war-time film, showing this through a strong woman?s eyes, in a man?s world. This story is essentially driven by love.

Blanchett yet again, pours emotion into her performance and is of course a believable role. I too, have to give Billy Crud...( read more)up credit for his performance here which I feel is his greatest to date.

Impressive all around with a much enjoyed plot.

Serendipity! This relatively unknown movie -why?- is another compelling showcase of Blanchett's talent. She kept the storyline moving along and engages the audience with her wonderful camera presence. The French countryside is beautiful & panoramic and is the backdrop during WW2-what irony to the immense tension the people were really living. The clothing, locale and props of the period feel authentic. The actors delivered their parts very well, contributing credibility to the story's basis. Charlotte Gray conveys what people undergo and learn about the world and themselves in dreadfully gripping circumstances. Realistic, moving, tear-dropping! A keeper for the library.

I Believe it was the first time I saw Billy Crudup. I really started to like him. Of course I also like this movie and Cate Blanchett does a wonderful job (as always).
