Here was me thinking I recorded the Steve Martin version, although similar kind of storyline, no comical bits, the childrens ages vary and parents have different jobs, but enjoyable to watch.
I saw the last bit of this on Film 4. I knew of the Steve Martin version of recent times & hadn't wanted to watch, but this film caught my attention & it could be a good story, I'll have to watch at some point. :)
It may not be as good as the first movie, but the crazy adventures keep on rolling. Plus this time the Bakers have to face another competetive family that's just as big as them.
i could see one of these child stars writing home..."Hey, Mom, I got a part in the show! Problem is, there's about 50 of us, so I have, like, 2 lines."
Not the Steve Martin remake but the original Clifton Webb effort. Comedy dates and this is no exception, plus the ending is one of the worst I've ever seen.
I'm sure Clifton Webb and especially Myrna Loy are infinitely more charming than Steve Martin and co, but to say family orientated comedy is not my cup of tea would be an understatement of biblical proportions...
This was surprisingly enjoyable, heck perhaps even more than the more recent update done by Steve Martin. It has that classic feel-good sense to it despite the near-absurdity of the entire premise.
A good movie with a good story behind it about family always being there for you, it just might take a minute for them to realize you need them. Sometimes you have to hit them over the head!
an ok movie but nothing special. i have a certain contempt for this one even though i'm sure it was a fine film for the 1800's or whatever... it's just a bit damn dull now
