In Disney's Cheetah, Keith Coogan and Lucy Deakins play two LA teenagers who aren't really looking forward to their upcoming trip to Kenya. Once in Africa, the kids change their minds when, together with local youth Collin Mohtupi, they befriend a cheetah cub. When the cub grows to maturity, it is necessary for Coogan and Deakins to reacclimate their domesticated pet to life in the wilds. The plot's menace is personified by a covetous store owner who hopes to exploit the cheetah at the local dog races. Cheetah is based on The Cheetahs, a novel by actor Alan Caillou. ~ Hal Erickson,… More

Critic Reviews from Rotten Tomatoes

"Cheetah brings to focus the concerns of experts and laymen alike."
‑ Ruth Ford, Washington Post
"Despite spotty acting, the story is worth seeing for animal lovers."
‑ Staci Layne Wilson, StaciWilson.com
"'80s Disney live-action adventure with few perilous moments."
‑ Joly Herman, Common Sense Media
"There's a lot here that the kiddies will like, and it's delivered with a minimum of the outright schmaltz that's become so prevalent in Disney's more recent efforts."
‑ Scott Weinberg, eFilmCritic.com
"It's an exceedingly simple story using the lure of golden African locations, animal observation, and teen histrionics to coax viewers in, directed by a guy who used to craft Circle-Vision films for Epcot."
‑ Brian Orndorf, BrianOrndorf.com
"An overly sentimental 'family film' that brings to mind the old Disney True-Life Adventures, Cheetah is a very old-fashioned movie. And that's not meant as a compliment."
‑ Chris Hicks, Deseret News, Salt Lake City
