This is SO terrible that it is invaluable to film students and admirers of the cinema of mediocre melodramatic over-reaching. Not to be missed if you appreciate how a film shouldn't be. This movie is like being raped and enjoying it, so fine the line it treads between aspiring gr...( read more)eatness that laughably comes within reach and utter failure in film language of the "this must be intentional" sort. I may eventually add more ways of describing how this film tries to be a good work and the ensuing hilarity when it fails.

This is one of the few films from Anchor Bay that I would throw in the trash rather then pass it on to someone else or Goodwill it. It is that bad. And I was surly caught off guard. Full of Sexual Filth, don't get me wrong, I am not a prude, this could have been a good movie, jus...( read more)t some of what was added was unnecessary. This is the worst in British Horror, they have much better then this. Story is based on British occultist Aleister Crowley resurrecting himself. Just a bit to far out there for me.

Strange, slightly ridiculous but at the same time decent occult horror thing! It's quite hard to describe what this film is but basically the soul of Alistair Crowley gets put into the mind and body of a university proffessor through a scientific, quantum physics experiment and t...( read more)hats when "Crowley" starts reeking havoc with his strange sexual ritual practices! Kinda crazy, yes but its also an interesting look into the mind of an intelligent and clever, as well as mental, bastard. As this is a film by legendary Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson there are plenty of lyrical references to Maiden and a few Maiden/Dickinson songs on the soudtrack that add to the fun!

I'll probably hate it but I have to see it all the same.

Bruce Dickinson (yes, THE Bruce Dickinson!), wrote this story of Mr. Crowley in contemporary times. Pretty lousy, I guess he REALLY wanted to a story of Aleister Crowley, but its too expensive for set dressing for a period piece, thus attempted to re-work it into modern times. Th...( read more)is did not work. Though was nice to hear some Bruce solo stuff and some Maiden throughout the film!

Not big on special effects, and it could have done with fewer. This is not a high budget piece of production. However, the writing is pretty decent, the acting is excellent (Callow's Crowley and Haddo are excellent) and the research that went into creating the character of Crowle...( read more)y is top notch. For those who don't know, "Oliver Haddo" was one of Crowley's pen names.

Rented this from LoveFilm, really enjoyed it. The Crowley stuff is fantastically well done although the physics side of it occasionally goes a bit astray plotwise. Simon Callow is wonderful, throws his co-stars in the pale. Definitely worth watching, especially if you know anythi...( read more)ng about the occult.
