not much of a film person im more 4 my music
There are some movies that never age, and I think it's fair to say that this noir classic is one of those films. Chinatown is one of many movies that Nicholson performs perfectly as the bad guy that you have to love. Dunaway was good too, but Nicholson basically hoisted this one ...( read more)
Classic Roman Polanski, classic Nicholson, and overall, an amazing and great detective noir film.
Good acting and good storyline. Probably better when it first came out as I dont think many films had tragic endings in the olden days.
one of my favs. a classic. who can ever forget the memorable scene between faye dunaway and jack nicholson?? u know which one^^
Everyone talks about this film?s brilliant script, great cinematography, amazing acting, and noir revival. As I watched it today, having been a while since I saw it, I am reminded just how much of a good mystery it is as well. The film simply tells a wildly exciting story in a ...( read more)
Jack Nicholson turns in a great performance in Chinatown, the last scene was sick.
Polanski at his best and Jack is very good as the private dick trying to piece it together
A brilliant neo noir story with a wonderful screenplay and a young Jack Nicholson at the top of his game. Faye Dunaway is particularly wtf-worthy, though, specially the accent.
My big problem with this movie is that it is so heavily plot driven that if you're not impressed by all the crazy twists and turns it doesn't offer that much else. Fortunately, it is so well focused that you kind of have to be impressed by all the crazy twists and turns. Super cl...( read more)
Roman Polanski's iconic, grim, mystery thriller, with a complex but gripping plot. The tension builds up to a shocking climax.
The greatest film noir, setting a benchmark in screenwriting. A perfect collaboration of artists in their prime.
Roman Polanski ends the movie the only way he knows how: with the death of a beautiful woman.
Don't get me wrong, Chinatown was a very good movie. But to me, I felt it could have done a little more to make it more interesting. The plot was very good and filled with twists. And the acting was outstanding.
Deservingly a classic and the best detective story I've seen. Nicholson and Polanski are in top form.
"Forget it, Jake. It's Chinatown"

It's funny how the greatest example of film-noir comes from the 70s rather than the 40s or 50s. 'Chinatown' has a fantastic multi-layered script involving love, investigation, corruption, and incest. The film is packed with twists and turns that keep on surprising you. The film...( read more)
great script, cinematography, acting but just not my genre and not THAT compelling overall to wow me.
"chinatown" accomplishes roman polanski's gritty experimentalness to blend vintage noir with atmospheric suspense under his horror signature signed in "rosemary's baby"
jack nicholson plays a private eye with the similiar temperament of humprey bogart's sam spade in "maltese f...( read more)
A private detective investigating an adultery case stumbles on to a scheme of murder that has something to do with water.
If you're looking for a post-noir mystery with all the sexiness and hard boiled gumshoes intact? Look no further. This is the gem in Robert Evans canon. Nicholson at his best. Robert Towne's best script and Roman Polanski's direction is flawless. The final twist, though a li...( read more)
very interesting 70s film noir. excellent performance from Jack Nicholson. dense, rich plot and very well-shot. definitely a brilliant, well-made movie, but I personally didn't enjoy it as much as I was anticipating.
Hey Jack Nicholson! What happened to your nose? Gotten a nose job or something? HAHA
A throwback film that recalls the gritty film noirs of the 1940's. Jack Nicholson is a LA private eye in the 1930's hired by a woman (Faye Dunaway) to follow her husband. What begins as a case of marital infidelity soons turns into a conspiracy involving the water company, murder...( read more)
The blonde girl, the detective and the crime, everything that a good noir movie should have. And this one is excellent, one of the bests ever.
They really don't make films like this anymore...
This is an exceptionally well told drama from Polanski with Jack on top form. Following Jake on his quest to unravel the death of a prominent businessman and the corruption that he encounters is a masterclass in story telling. ...( read more)
Second Faye Dunaway movie I've seen in school, two fridays in a row x'D
She were great here and so were Jack Nicholson, I'm not a fan of Jack, but he really was great here. And he was quite attractive when he was younger.
The plot could've been better, but it was good enough.
