Bold, solid and gripping something i havn't seen in a thriller in a long time. This is a great movie from korea and certain given hollywoodland a lession or two on making a great thriller.Have read somewhere that hollywood is doing a remake so get to see this one first before that...( read more) muck it up.

The Chaser takes on the tone of many similar, gritty Korean movies. It's great, but it's often unlikable. The Chaser angers it's audience by not following conventions. The darkness brings a sense that this is probably what 'would' happen, not what 'should' happen. The film is yet...( read more) another attack on the incompetence of the police force and how it's all politics, rather than protecting and serving. The films subplot has most of the police being distracted by an incident involving the mayor and a bag of poo. This leaves us the oddest of heroes, in an ex-cop, now pimp, whom is simply looking for one of his girls. Korea does it again.

A hack job and a tedious exercise in pointless tricks and gimmicks, this movie is not "smart" or "clever", it just turns every single character that is not the killer into a dumb bufoon that can't even catch a cold. Silly coincidences, silly situations and plenty of gore to distr...( read more)act the audience from it's sheer cinism and ineptitude in portraying a single convincing character. People comparing this with Memories of Murder both scare me and disturb me.

Extremely intense and graphically violent film. While i don't usually have a problem stomaching this kind of film, I found it particularly hard to sit through this one. I didn't get up and leave the theater, like a number of people all around me, nor was i tempted to, but i did f...( read more)ind myself cringing a few times in the process.

This is a very well made film, gritty from start to finish, relentless, well photographed, well scored, a tribute to the Korean action genre in the vein of Chan Wook Park's creations or Memories of Murder. Still, it didn't give me the thrill I got from either of the aforementioned, though perhaps that was the fault of my generally bad mood and fatigue. Perhaps it is simply the fact that throughout the film, i didn't feel like it was bringing anything new to the table, but that instead it was just following (admittedly, very well) the guidelines set before by other Korean greats. The theme was not new, neither was the perspective or the visual style, and while this was an incredibly well told and acted story, it didn't stand out to me as something more than a genre piece. I will confess though, that upon leaving the theater around 11 in the evening, I was looking over my shoulder a bit more than i normally would and I was quite shaken from the intensity and subject matter of the film.

With those reservations in mind, I would say the film is worth watching, especially if you are a fan of Korean action flicks.

Hong-jin Na's directorial debut is what SAW should've been. it's like a cross between that and Se7en. those south koreans have done it yet again! it's not totally predictable which keeps it interesting

Dark and disturbing Korean thriller about prostitutes being murdered by a cold and calculating killer. The girls' pimp (an ex-cop) is trying out what happened to them. This movie is tense and exciting but it shows some graphic and quite brutal killings. As thrillers go this is up...( read more) there with the best.

If you want a GREAT serial killer versus inept cops film rent Memories of Murder which does it splendidly. This one has loads of fucking problems mostly because of a terrible script but somehow manages to be a fun film. Koreans love hitting each other like the Three Stooges and l...( read more)ove their shit jokes, for a short while in the early 2000s they were producing some goddamn brilliant films like Oldboy and Save the Green Planet! They've slowed down quite a bit but still produce the occasional gem and numerous watchable films like this one. No logic or interest in producing a smart piece, this wants to twist and turn in the most incomprehensible way. I'll go with a film as long as it entertains me and this certainly does, just don't take it very seriously.

Dark, brutal and spiked with originality. This Korean cop thriller genre can be very violent what I'm excepted. The chase is on, and the roller coaster of emotions following the pimp and the cops trying to stop the serial killer is nothing less than gripping, watching them go fro...( read more)m one success to despair in short spaces of time. The tension is high and will tug on you right to the end.
Importantly there is a lot of humour. The main character, Joong-ho Eom, is incredibly dry-witted, and is a release valve for the tension in the film. As he carries the film, the acting is important, and both he and the serial killer are exceptionally good.
