After a series of dismal Disney films that were released prior to this, the House of Mouse finally returned with an animated feature worth seeing. Though I am a guy, I have to admit, this film was pretty fun and entertaining when I saw it as a child. The film's cast were enjoyable, and each have their own personalities. The musical sequences in the film were fun, and I believe the film's animation was done quite nicely. Though the film did have some boring moments, and some moments that made me a little angry -- particularly toward the end when the evil stepmother locked Cinderella in her cell -- the film was also a little predictable, and it seems these type of films has permeated the Disney Studios until now: a happy ending. Though I don't think anyone would want a bad, or an unhappy ending, it would be more interesting if Disney added some sort of twist in this film. Some of the best scenes in the film have to be Cinderella's encounter with the fairy, and probably the ballroom scene, as well. I do own this on VHS, and it has been a while since I saw this. I wouldn't mind viewing it again sometime. It was entertaining when I saw it as a child, and hopefully it will still entertain me now.

this is probably the epitome of a Disney film, and while there are those who would dismiss it's cutesy characters and schmaltz, let us not forget, without this (and a couple others) we would not be where we are today with animated films

In the Brothers Grimm rendition of the classic fairy tale, Cinderella's wicked stepsisters are ready to do anything to fit their feet into the heroine's slipper after she loses it in her haste to leave the palace before the last stroke of midnight. One of them is so desperate, she cuts off her big toe with a knife in an attempt to fool the prince. Unfortunately for her, while on the way to the castle, two birds perched on a branch draw the prince's attention to the blood dripping from the slipper, thereby exposing the fraud. The second stepsister is equally determined to enter the royal family and chops off a bit of her heel. The same situation ensues: the prince mistakes her for Cinderella, rides off with her on his horse and she is unmasked by the same two birds. Delightful, isn't? Curiously, the scenes I just described are nowhere to be found in the Disney version. I wonder why... (devious wink) Needless to say, the Mickey Mouse company went for a more family-friendly approach, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Beneath its sugar-coating, "Cinderella" is a masterpiece of fantasy and story-telling -- possibly the finest screen version of the tale that will ever be made. Lovable characters, enchanting musical numbers, a sumptuous palette and superb animation all contribute to the success of this remarkable achievement. Disney's "Cinderella" casts a spell which, unlike the Fairy Godmother's magic, remains undiminished by time.
