Say what you will about the mice with their annoying voices, or the fact that you prefer cats to dogs (I don't), or that Cinderella might not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but this movie is a gem of animation.

While the music is not as memorable as that of the later Disney ...( read more)animations e.g. 'Little Mermaid', 'Beauty and the Beast' it's nonetheless pleasant, and you'll amuse yourself as the frame shifts between the ugly sisters' ridiculously terrible performance of 'Sing Sweet Nightingale' to Cindrella's soothing rendition. Eleanor Audley is pure class as the witchy Lady Tremaine ('Above all, self control!') and Gus the Chubby Mouse is too endearing to be irritating.

So, why four stars? Well, though Cinderella is sweet and gentle and hard - working and blah blah, etc., she really doesn't have much to her. She doesn't stand out in any way, like Mulan or Belle and company do. And the Prince, with his vacant expression and the absence of a proper name, isn't exactly charismatic either.
They are made up for (in part), by the Grand Duke and grandchild - obsessed king, who provide plenty of laughs for young and old alike ('Take a look at that, you pompous old windbag!').

Definitely deserves at least one watch.

"..Cinderelly, Cinderelly, night and day it's Cinderelly, Make the fire! Fix the breakfast! Wash the dishes! do the moppin'!.."

Another Disney classic. Love the mice and the music, watched it enough when I was younger but it's never been one of my favourites.

I have loved the story of Cinderella every since I was a little kid. I had the book, and I read it over and over again. I loved this movie so much as a kid, that I wore the tape out. It is just such a sweet pure tale of love!
