A predictable, clichéd, formulaic story of one man?s struggle against adversity. Not usually my cup of tea, but I thought this was quite good! I have a lot of niggles with its direction and continuity but overall, it?s a good Ron Howard film.

Crowe-Great, Zellweger- Amazing, Giamatti- Incredible! I was worried that this story would get lost in the star power, but the opposite is true. Just a great movie.

Packs Powerful Punch. One of the Best Boxing films I have ever seen. Tearful and Joyful, Violent and Disarming, Powerful and Beautiful, all the reasons why I love the movies. Russell Crowe's best performance yet, an Academy Award Movie. It brings out the Irish in all of us.

Cinderella Man is a movie about the indomitability of the American spirit, and those are always far less interesting than movies about actual people. full review
Easily the best American film so far this year. full review
Pardon its dust, and you'll be rewarded with a moving story of a time gone by, and of an unexpected hero. full review
The fight scenes hurt, not because they're edited like quicksilver or nimbly staged -- they are -- but because we are made to care so deeply for the title character. full review
Most serious movies live in a world of cynicism and irony, and most good-hearted movie characters live in bad movies. Here is a movie where a good man prevails in a world where every day is an invitat... full review
It's schmaltzy -- but it's schmaltz veined with foie gras. full review
It's a thrilling story, all the more amazing for being true. full review

August 20, 2006Despite being a bit color-by-the-numbers and predictable, Cinderella Man delivers the goods and succeeds in portraying the hardships that the Braddock family go through during the Great Depression. Ron Howard, much like Scorsese did in Raging Bull puts us inside the ring receiving the jabs and the hooks along with Braddock. As I said before the film is very predictable and doesn't really represent Max Baer well (who in real life had a VERY hard time coping with the fact that he killed someone in the ring), but this is still a very satisfying watch.
