Bruno, a sadistic criminal, wants clever con man Leo out of the way. Leo and his equally clever wife, Lily, are up to something. So too is Julius: he hires Leo to kill Gloria, Julius's wife. Leo does ...( read more  read more... )it, but then Julius shows up with the murder on tape, saying Gloria isn't his wife - it's blackmail. Leo's bookie, Troy, is also closing in, wanting to be paid. Bruno and Lily as well as Bruno and Julius have their own scams running, and Leo is their target. Maybe Leo can get Troy off his back, avoid Moose (Bruno's huge enforcer), send Gloria's corpse out of England, turn the tables on Bruno's murderous brother Caspar, and outfox Lily. Or is Lily his fox? It's a three-ring circus.

This film had the potential of bing a food British movid, the plot was pretty clever with great twists. Both John Hannah and Famke Janssen played good parts, but the comedy moments were really forced and why did it have to have to have Brian Connelly as the main gangster? There...( read more) was this thing that Eddie Izzard was doing by singing songs relevant to the situation which didn't really come to anything. Some parts watchable, some parts cringable.

This is one of those movies where the director tries to make a smart and clever movie but instead ends up a muddled and only mildly engrossing film. John Hannah is well cast and he comes off the best in the cast, but the characters are so unsavory that it never really drew me in...( read more)to the film. It's a bunch of nasty people doing a lot of nasty things.

So the twists and turns are ultimately pretty silly and unbelievable. However, I adore the cast and loved watching these people interact even though it was largely for no reason.

So many twists n turns in this crime thriller. Awesome story with terrific acting, and definitely some cool action scenes.

Watchable British gangster nonsense in the wake of the new cycle of such films (post Lock Stock). Is more complicated than is necessary; and as usual with this sort of thing the characters are too unpleasant and devoid of proper morals to care much about.
