Wunderkind Orson Welles shot himself in the foot with this film. This is the kind of amazing, practically perfect in every way, film that a director makes towards the end of his career. Not the first one out of the gate. Loosely based on a true story, but given fantastic visuals to play with and an interesting premise -- what can one word reveal about a man? What could it explain? Well, nothing really, because nothing along these lines can really be explained. Who was he? Not even his two wives and best friends knew. "Rosebud" was just a symbol ? a security blanket, of his childhood before it was interrupted, and his long lost innocence. If the reporters found it, they wouldn't understand what it was beyond the physical object. But back to the visuals for a minute, one of the first sequences in the movie involves a snow globe that is overlapped on top of Kane's dying face, rolls out his hand (we're now back to reality), and smashes on the floor. In walks the nurse and towards his bed, we see this from the point-of-view of the broken snow globe. I love it so much. I'm not going to lie, I was totally afraid to watch this movie. Its reputation is staggering; almost frightening really, luckily it lives up to the hype.

Avant Garde then...now the epitome of perfection, so timelss and engaging! It is the testimony of braveness and daring that visionaries usually overcome but are criticized for but "he who laughs last leaughs best". Welles is pure magic and stortelling so compelling, its the afterthoughts that get to you and like great literature, the art continues to penetrate you, making you feel & think. This is how it is beautiful too because of the visually hypnotizing nuances. It transfixes your inner sight on the story, one that has universally appealing themes of the wish for innocence and youthful happiness, those which cannot be bought. Money is not everything l belonging and love is! Its so ironic that Welles had to live such a incorrigible existence at one time in his life too; eventhugh it was after this movie.

A good film, especially when you consider when this film was made. You really stay focussed and involved in the film because you want to find out what "Rosebud" means, just as much as the reporter.

Watershed American movie-making..still haven't figured out why Joseph Cotten develops a southern accent in his old age,but with that as the only dicy spot...I don't think there's a cinematographer alive worth his salt out there who hasn't marvelled at this movie.I even urge those 35 & under who are true cinephiles to see it.

Deserves its reputation as greatest movie ever made. No one has even ever come close and I doubt anyone ever will.

No wonder some people and some websites say that this is the best film of all time. Me, on the other hand, doesnt think that it one of the best. I think the best from the elder days is Casablanca. Orson Welles was brilliant as Charles Foster Kane and he directed this film really brilliantly aswell. William Alland, George Coulouris, Ruth Warrick and Dorothy Comingmore were also brilliant in this film.

A fantastic piece of story-telling. This is obviously Orson Welles masterpiece which he very greatly directed, wrote and starred in. The cinematography is wonderful, there are some enchanting performances and the music is superb. The make-up use is also brilliant Welles is cleverly disguised as all the ages he appears. All in all the movie is a classic of epic proportions, and in my opinion is a must-see because it turns out to be a very meaningful experience. Although I'm not quite certain if it is worthy 'best film ever made'.

Whoever thought that a black and white film can be an eye candy? If the long but interesting story won't keep your attention glued to the screen, the camera work will.

Its easy to see why this film is often ranked as the greatest film of all time. Released in 1941 and just take a look at the quality of direction, acting, and plot compared to some of the muck released today, there's just no excuse.
For a film which sells its story by jumping back and forth between timelines its relatively easy to follow thanks to Welles.
The only fault some people might find especially for this generation is the hype, the hype built up around the film as the greatest film of all time, some will have raised their expectations to high, I sure did on my first viewing but I went back and watched it again, the lighting the camera movements for that time, they were amazing, and thats the brilliance of Citizen Kane.

Best Movie of ALL TIME! nuff said. Without the mechanics of this film, you won't get any of the classics you see today and in the future. This film stands alone on so many playing fields and is very difficult to top...

It was good, but I never need to see it again. The pace was really slow, but the storyline was great.

Citizen Kane is without much doubt the most debated and most revered film of anyone who has ever seriously taken up film study. A Director's film, it is lavish, over the top, expensive and expansive. It is a legend in the annals of Hollywood Studio Filmmaking in the early 1940's. Never has anything come to the screen like it and probably never will. A bold proposition that poked fun at real life tycoon William Randolph Hearst, it ripped apart big business and politics at a time when it was taboo to do so.

What better word to describe this film than, "Rosebud..."
Orson Welles powerful film Citizen Kane has played a major influence on almost every film released after 1941.
Considered by many the best movie ever, this masterpiece is definitely a must see. All throughout the movie, we're trying to find out who the mysterious Rosebud is. When we find out who it was, you'll be astonished. Brilliant!

Orsen Welles makes the perfect example of what a movie should be. From cinematography to story; from music to acting, this movie is more than a classic.

I went into this movie really not know what it was about at all but having high expectations of it from what I had heard about it. I finished it feeling more than satisfied and not at all disappointed. While I may not believe it to be the greatest film ever made as many have said (I personally think it's impossible to come to any conclusion that only one movie is the greatest) but I do believe it was incredibly well done and had a very interesting and not to mention original story for that time.

Citizen Kane es como esos libros que se tienen siempre a mano, a la vista, solo por el placer de hojearlos nuevamente alguna vez

Habia algo esperando a ser descubierto, OW lo vio

Everyone's favorite film. I have nothing to add. Itemizing its moments of genius is futile, because it is greater than the sum of its already impressive parts.

The greatest film ever? Why? there is nothing amazing about this whatsoever. The only people who like this or consider it to be great are the ones who believe the hype and not their own personal thoughts about it
