"LYING IS THE MOST FUN A GIRL CAN HAVE WITHOUT TAKING HER CLOTHES OFF...BUT IT'S BETTER IF YOU DO!"
    -Alice Ayres-

The movie theme core is that intimacy is a lie. The closer a couple become in a relationship, the more they are paved by deceptions. I should say this movie has fantasticly succeeded to put the audience in the picture.

Generally, the entire casts are fairly perfect. Come on, what more we could ask for? We have the mother of America's most favourite twins, the so-called James Bond on the next. Well, despite Jude Law's poor performance, they still are. I mean, i used to be his fan, but those wacky cries he made really makes me barf. Was it really that hard to act like a chicken cheating bastard who knows nothing but cowardice?? But thanks to the blindsiding "Sexiest Man Alive" award, he's slightly better than Orlando Bloom.
Regardless, the other three has managed to save the whole film with their outstanding performances. I admire Clive Owen inimitable accent, a lot. The other stupendous two, Roberts and Portman, i always love their flawless performance. Despite the fact Roberts every so often a pain in the neck, how she winds up the movie, winning over the male role while there's still other female (America's Sweethearts, etc.).
I get to adore this movie even more every time I rewatch it. Because however, without ever showing a sex scene on screen, the're able to portray the nasty nature of lust, deception, obsession, and jealousy without actually exploiting these acts. The screenwriter is utterly skilled with smart dialog that reflects every meaning of every word and the next thing I admire so badly, is the portrait of everyone as victims but also an abuser on the next scene, though not always in the most obvious ways. Closer is very adult, bold, and also smoking hot. A highly recommended movie.

    Dan: "Didn't fancy my sandwiches?"

    Alice: "Don't eat fish."

    Dan: "Why not?"

Alice: "Fish piss in the sea."

    Dan: "So do children."

    Alice: "Don't eat children either."

I really like this movie, i don't quite know why i like it so much, but i just do. The acting, casting and storyline are superb. The way that these four peoples lives intertwine with each others is just amazing.

This shows the underbelly of life. I find myself watching this film whenever I'm feeling detached. I have a very strange relationship with it. I can't decide if I actually like this or not. But it fascinates me.

I thought Nichols made the top of it, the result was really the best Closer can came up with. I tried to imagine how this movie would be if it was made by another hand, and the result can't be better than this, and that's what a good movie about. The script was incredible, I admire all the dialogs, that was smart. Afterall every movie has a soul, whether it would be successfully delivered or not, that is the difference between a masterpiece and a rubbish. Well, this movie is one of the first option. Great job for Portman, giving her A-list performance, and she topped the other casts performance. Roberts and Owen was good, but Portman was incredible. Law? I thought he was the weakest among the other and the weakest point of the movie, but thankfully, he didn't utterly brought down the movie, afterall the other aspects were NEARLY PERFECT.

A fairly god movie, with a lot of emotions; sometimes the reactions are just not logical, but still it gets you into the story and can make you feel sad, depresed, angry, happy, etc
It has a real good cast with gorgeous women and handsome men.

A class film. My 1st and 2nd favourite actresses Natalie Portman and Julia Roberts are gorgeous in it. The acting in that flm was very good from my 5th favourite actor Clive Owen and Natalie Portman. They both deserved their Oscar nominations. Julia Roberts and Jude Law were brilliant aswell. This film looks like a complete teen film when it really isnt at all. Thats what I thought of this film at first.

This movie makes me happy, sad, angry, and pretty much every emotion that my bipolar disorder allows me to have. I love the cast of characters and the play between them, and every time I see Natalie Portman's character walking down the street at the end of the movie, I fall in love with her again. She is the shining light in this story.

And I thought my loved life was a little fucked up, well think again, after seeing this. I wasn't sure how this film was going to pan out just from reading the synopsis. Two couples doesn't really explain it very well. I liked that the characters all change very much throughout the film. Jude Law starts off as what seems to be a really nice guy, then turns into an asshole. The same then happens with Clive Owen's character, then by the end you feel sorry for all the character except Owen. I thought the acting was reasonable, and the plot decent, although considering the hype about this film, I felt it was slightly overrated. Natalie Portman was very good, giving the best performance and probably the most interesting and under stated character in the film. Jude Law was very good although being slightly pathetic towards the end. The last scene was slightly confusing as motives are never revealed. Why did she lie all that time about who she was. It would ruin it if they explained it because that would mean it would have to go on longer which by the end I just wanted it to end. Decent, all the same, and definatly worth checking out.

This is a rather unconventional love story. Jude Law, Julia Roberts, Natalie Portman, & Clive Owen make up the all star cast. It's most certainly not a romantic comedy. It's a down to earth drama about relationships. I love it because it's realistic about romance. A total must see but make sure you have an ample supply of kleenex at your disposal!

God this movie is faboulous!! Short, lovable, naughty and again incredible. Natalie Portman is magnificent and beauitiful, Clive Owen amazing and Julia Roberts good ...as always and Jude Law again gortious. A love story without corny things, direct and tricky, I really liked it and I think the end is the best damn part of this adult romantic movie. With an iressistable dialogue this movie is by far one of the best movies of the last years, it is just good, amazing.

Mike Nichols psychological character studies have always been some of my favorites, like in The Graduate (1967) or Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1966), his definitive masterpiece.

This OK cast brings unexpectedly good performances. The film is depressing and you clearly see how their personalities and feelings start to sink slowly. Great modern film. Humans are definitely, by nature, unfaithful and bad intentioned.

'I Can't Take My Eyes Off of You'... One of those movie songs which perfectly matches the film and I can't get it out of my head! WOW~ how to describe this almost genius of a film?! Raw, incredible, exotic, erotic, and masterful are words which come to the front of my mind. Complexity and simplicity rolled into one make Closer one of the most interesting films I've had the pleasure of viewing. Though not a film for all audiences (graphic language, subject matter, nudity/sexuality), Patrick Marber has written a superb script involving deception, intimacy, infidelity and sacrifice. Clive Owen, Jude Law and Natalie Portman give award winning performances, and even Julia Roberts doesn't fall flat in Closer. A truly spellbinding film....

OK I'll say it. Natallie Portman is pretty hot in this film. Clive Owen is always good. I think Julia Roberts was perfectly cast here. This is a smart and daring film that sizzles with razor sharp dialog.

Natalie Portman in a pink wig barely wearing clothing and spinning around a stripper pole -- one of the sexiest images in the history of film? The heterosexual in me wants to say yes. But the screaming queen that I mostly am wants to point to the scene where Clive Owen gets all demanding and yells at Julia Roberts about wanting to know what Jude Law's cum tastes like. But then I remember that I cannot let my hormones get the best of me, and that time has yet to determine "Yay" or "Nay" on that. I get swept right up in the emotional backstabbing and relationship hop-scotching the characters do to each other. I wonder if they ever really did love each other, or if they were desperate and lonely people who were reaching out for some affection. It could honestly go either way, especially when Portman tells Law she just fell out of love with him and dares him to slap her.

Warning: You will probably have no idea why you liked this movie. I had the same problem - I liked it (very, very much), but I hadn't the faintest clue why. But I will attempt to give a few reasons.

One: you will want to know how everyone ends up. Even if you don't care the slightest bit about the character, you cannot sleep without knowing their fate in love. A plus, that the movie is able to keep people watching.

Two: The acting is top - notch. I say this especially for Natalie Portman and Clive Owen. Riveting. Not even the most fussy critic could complain.

Three: It has a deep message. It leaves you with questions about your own views on the topic, and plenty to discuss with friends or movie buddies.

The rest, you'll have to find out for yourself. Will remain a favourite for years to come.

I really loved this film despite the characters being so very unlikable and evil to each other. The good and evil side of relationships are explored.

What a harrowing and depressing look at love. I really enjoyed the segmented narrative, especially how you never knew immediately how much time had passed since the previous scene. The whole yo-yo of love is definitely interesting, although it tends to lose steam towards the end (but doesn't quite lose all of its muster). The performances were good but everyone is a bit of a dickhead, though. Jude Law plays...Jude Law. Clive Owen plays awesome. Natalie Portman plays a stripper. And Julia Roberts didn't annoy me. Good work guys!

The number of backstabbings and betrayls in this movie even outnumber those of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. It kind of annoyed me at the time, but I guess that's the point... that maybe people can never be happy. It's well-made and the acting's great, so... I would recommend it.

Mike Nichols produces another rough, riveting drama. brilliant acting is the obvios selling point here. the film is somewhat let down by the feeling that it is a stage play on film, although it does translate well, it doesnt feel particularly cinematic.
