A logical progression of the monster movie. Not an original technique but a fantastic idea, unfortunately it?s not executed as well as I feel it could have been. I have a long list of niggles I have with this film but I did like it quite a lot. I just wish Lars Von Trier had dire...( read more)cted it! ;o)

pleasantly surprised. with all the mixed reviews and hearing alot about how it was hyped up i avoided seeing it in the cinema and never bought it. fortunately my uncle leant it to me and i enjoyed it ninety percent of the runtime. in some ways it's original and others not. the wa...( read more)y it's filmed is obviously similar to blair witch, the manner it goes about its plot is similar to the spanish film REC (which also has the similar filming method) but the monster is completely new. i thought the rare soldiers Vs. monster action sequences were shot really well. when reading other peoples reviews i found most of the negative ones concentrated on the claim that you don't see the monster until the end and when you do it's barely. i really don't get where these people are coming from. within the half hour mark you keep seeing it and it's minions. to have the monster in it all the way through would've become boring and reduced the creepy factor. it's nice to see something coming out of hollywood a little different to the usual stuff i'm so sick of

OK this is how Godzilla should have been, a more mature and tense affair which actually feels like a disaster movie. Lets not get carried away though, its not superb, its good and very exciting which due to the handheld cam idea really makes you feel the tension big time haha. Bu...( read more)t this also makes you feel kinda sick after time and you find when the action kicks in so does the person holding the cam.....sooooo the picture is flying about all over the place. This is of course deliberate but you feel like your missing whats going on, its all moving too fast for you to focus. Effective in short bursts but for a whole film it becomes tough going on the eyes.
The actors are all very good and due to their unknowness it does feel very real, you do get a feeling of 'Blair Witch rip off' in alot of places but its forgiving. The effects are top notch and clearly 9/11 was used for homework on the destruction effects through the city, huge clouds flowing through the streets brings back an eerie chill, as for the monster, its pretty good, its certainly a mixture of possible ideas from different creatures and it does work and look menacing. There are little facehugger style creatures too which does feel abit copied from many films but they look good. In all its very good, afew silly bits like managing to find the lost girlfriend in a building torn apart, rather easy and convenient and Im not too sure about the ending. Its original and shows that the whole event is actually a recording from what took place maybe days before, so its after the disaster basically, but the final scene with the leads I find hard to work out, was it a huge bomb blast from the military or the creature?
    Well done.

WOW! Intense and highly entertaining... Cloverfield is an awesome viewing experience if you just let yourself become immersed in the disaster aspect of the film. From the hand-held filming to masterful FX, Cloverield will capture your attention and not let go until the end. (...( read more)Don't expect scary, instead focus on the intensity of disaster.) Kudos to the cast and crew for bringing a new kind of monster movie to the screen. Bring on the sequel.....

I was fearing I would be seeing somthing similar to the Blair Witch Project, so my expectations were very low. But I thought this was really good... possibly because I could see what was happening at the crucial parts.

    CocoCoopah: "Random!"

SheriffBufordTJustice: Yes this movie was random. Was waiting for the cliche parts, but NO never happened. This is one of the very few movies in our time that keeps you guessing.

Why didn't I give it 5 stars then? I hated the fucking camera view :D

Really quite well done for what it is at the core, a simple monster movie. The camera really works and the storyline is actually interesting.
