Woah!, I hated The Blair Witch Project but this was brilliant! It didn't take for ever to introduce the characters and didn't really have any stupid, unnecessary bits in it. It got straight into the action and was a very tense and action packed film with a really shocking ending.

WOW! This film is brilliant! What can I say believe the hype. This is such an engaging film you won't be able to take your eyes off the screen for a second. This is a mix of action, drama, disaster, and sci-fi all rolled into one and even with a touch of romance to. It was much better than I expected it to be given all the hype around it. The film is viewed through the playback of a camcorder after an event in New York, Kinda Blair Witch like but better. The first person feel of it really brings you into the action, panic and confusion as the events unfold. This is set to be a cult classic! If you haven't seen it yet put it to the top of your to watch/rental list! It feels like a roller-coaster ride you don't want to end!

I liked the hand held camera effect but what was the monster about. I thought that it looked awful! It was a great film up until the moment when the monster was introduced.

a fairly good movie, it was good at times but the ending surprised me a lot. The camera work was absolutely brilliant. However if you suffer from migraines or something similar this movie might set it off. Altogether i suggest seeing it.

A great contempoary veiw if nuthing else, upon a second viewing, of the reality influence of cameras in day to day life and for occations covering different ways to deal with a taken for granted intense piece of equipment for mainstreem use. The film, almost a rip off plot that can allways be repeated for reveiw into human natre in numbers (mass panic) if not during phases/symtoms of shock/panic and focus to achieve sucess in a situation without the hero, for a change but in a natur4al Bloke sorta way. Not to say the over the top valant efforts by a friend to save the life, endangering there own lives, woop/over it but hey there was the phone calls of unheard discriptions of the girls plight 39 floors up. The Rest is History lol in a reality kinda ooops amature editing way hehe. Won`t happen
: possible semi apocolyptic / invasion Woe Godzilla and Independece day converge to that alternitivemiddle mediocer action that did thrill and make me laugh all the same, not bad.

I thought the acting in this film was really good. The effect of the shaking camera did give off of a realistic feel, but it was annoying after a while.

"Cloverfield" is a post-9/11 Godzilla movie, a giant monster film shot from the ground by an amateur with a video camera (thanks Hud for documenting this.) It is incredibly short: seventy minutes, only seven times as long as its end titles (when you get all of the score, inappropriately called the Cloverfield "overture".) And it is so bumpy and shaky that it makes Paul Greengrass look like Hou Hsiao Hsien.

What I may have liked most about the movie was its palimpsestic nature, and not just because it enables me to show off my vocabulary on a Flixster ;-) "Cloverfield" is an unedited tape recovered from the archives of the US Government and shown "as is". But the film we're watching is composed not only (though mostly) of footage of the present disaster, but of glimpses from a previous, happier recording, which provides some of the backstory. This was really a clever device, for which I gave the film an extra half star.

Kaiju movie afficionados might be a little impatient with the rather long introduction, which establishes the characters and their romantic relations through bits of short home movies, mostly shot at a going away party, but however distracting these first fifteen minutes or so may be, they do succeed in anchoring the film in reality, and making us care about the characters who are going to go through the ordeal. I particularly liked the interaction between the camera holder (who doesn't get that much screen time) and Marlena. It almost looked like something out of "Napoleon Dynamite."

One of the things that also impressed me about the film was that the aftertaste was not that of a film, but more of a disturbing piece of news, like seeing the footage from Katrina or the Boxing Day tsunami.

Marvelous! I really like the intelligent flow of the movie. The way the movie works is genius. I recommend it to everyone who enjoys a bit different style of movie-making.

What an amazing monster movie!! The best part of it is the concept of the single camera/amateur view. It makes the movie feel real. Some will complain about the camera's shakiness, but in my opinion, the things you don't see are what makes the story eerie.

Cloverfield was a pretty good movie all and all. Besides the hundreds of point of view shots and the camera bouncing around every five seconds it was a pretty good movie. I thought that it was very clever and smart the way they made this movie. Despite me not being a fan of the camera shots and the way they did the camera work you might be a fan. I just thought that the beginning was boring and the ending was bad. The actors did a great job for the roles they had to play. I also thought that some of the messages and themes aimed toward this movie were great. I also loved what the characters did for each other in this movie. So in conclusion if you like bouncing cameras, and big monsters then i recommend this movie for you.

I just saw this today and it was great. I didn't realize that the whole thing was filmed like the Blair Witch project, but I approve of the choice.

It is so terrible.....I can't believe it.....If the camera is not that shaken or have the normal camera in between it will be awesome!

    OK,

I have finally joined the Cloverfield club lol.I am being generous,(VERY) with giving it the 4.Don't get me wrong it's watchable,The shaky camera didn't bug me as much as I thought it was going to.The cast for being a group of "unknownes" did very well. There were also some pretty good intense scenes. But if you are expecting to see alot of monster action Sorry not this time. It's such a dam tease. But I am not going to say anymore...I don't think I have said anything more than has already been reviwed,So I hope I have not ruined anything for anyone. My best advice see this one for yourself, and YOU be the judge.Oh and if you are gonna pay $$$$ to see this at the theaters,be ready for a quick ride ok?Whole movie Start to finish is 85 minutes.Just something to think about.=)

I loved this film thought it was great, I wish I'd been able to see it at the cinema but I would have seriously been risking throwing up! I'm just glad I saw it in the end, the hand held camera idea was excellent, very realistic, it successfully made me feel like I was in the film, good monster. good destruction, excellent film!

i liked it. i don't know why people hated it so much. true the beginning was horrible with the droning on at the party but the rest made up for it. effects were used well....not a big fan of cg but done well in this one. monsters were different enough to want to see them shot after shot. unlike war of the world remake, some of the main characters actually die...which makes me like it even more.

Best movie ive seen all year. Original, ground breaking, and simply stunning. A combination of alternative filming styles, and modern day special effects and big budget visual feasts. Combination = exquisite. Best thing is that its filmed like an amatuer documentary and thats what it feels like aswell. In a strange way its even believable. Probably because although it has a liniar plot, it also just hits you in one, like how things do hit you in real life and like something like that would hit you if it happened. A big blur of existance, thats why its so good.

You probably will get headache and or blindness if u survived watching that movie, coz of that hand video-taping-type-of-film. But if u really survived then it worth it, if not, you would be dead or end up blind!

OK....No big words, this movie is "a Must-See",whether you're a Horror fan or monster fan,Shaky camera lover or You just wanted to see a Movie with a different taste.

The Movie opens with some TV stuffs & some Government property approvals like it had been viewed by some Authorities. Then it continues the whole movie with a hand-held video footage, via from the view of a group of New Yorkers.
Even it's screen ratio is a ratio that said a goodbye to Hollywood Movies a long time ago.& it does worked out beautifully.

So what is the monster?,a Whale?,an Old schooled Godzilla?,A video game based creature?No....this one is invented by J.J Abrams & his team.Let me call it the cloverfield monster as it is still unnamed. The monster is super big, angry, ruthless, loud, strong & can say pretty fast for his size. It's hands are more like the extra legs which are extending from its body, plus the super big mouth with gruesome teeth. It also drops lots of spider-like mini creatures which are also fast & furious.Their bites can even cause some unknown infections, which the story didn't show very much.

    Photobucket

Unlike "The Blair Witch Project",this movie is shown exactly from a single view.My ears were bleeding in the scenes like the soldiers shooting down the Monster in the middle of the streets. Some dudes even left the cinema hall because of those super shaky cameras.Unfortunately, this is kind of monster movie I have been waiting for years,So it was kinda thrill ride for me."The Fake Monster Documentary" I must say.

This movie is not only about a monster attacking NYC,it also includes a tragic Love story between Rob Hawkins & Beth McIntyre, two of the main characters. They uses some cut-offs & flashbacks, which looks stylish & beautiful. They ended up under the bridge, screaming "I Love You" for a couple times. The story seems quite fast after the death scene of Hud,the main camera holder of the Movie. They must extend about 15 or 20 minutes more to give us the maximum satisfaction.

Extra Props must be given to the End Credits. They are the best I've seen since last year's Michael Clayton.A bass tone become louder & louder & then mixed with lots of string instruments. That music theme is the one & the only music in this movie & it's quite thrilling.So....there you go Director Matt Reeves,a big boost for you.

I loved the camera work in this movie and the special effects were awesome. Very Original. Though, the upcoming "Quarantine" is proof that the camera techniques are going to become a new trend in movie making.

The idea once was original, have your actors shoot the film. How cool is that? Than, they started to use it ever so often. If they can't figure out how action sequence should be made, they just shake camera bit more, so you can't see anything all the same. On the other hand, they did have those spare CGI monsters lying around, so you will have to see those beastly things despite the fact that CGI is never scary, looks fake and irritating, and there is absolutely no need for it. There was only one good thing about this movie, and that was gorgeous Lizzy Caplan.

This movie is shot in a style similar to The Blair Witch Project, which I think turns many viewers off. I personally was kept on the edge of my seat and really enjoyed it.

Cloverfield was pretty cool with all the graphics but I didn't like the ending. It was horrible.
I always freak out and think what if this happened to our state? I wonder what we would do.
