The way they filmed it really pulls you in. Would've been nice to have a happy ending though, but then again: it does make it different from the average 'and they lived happily ever after'-movie . Bought it as soon as it got in stores.

Theres a lot to say about this movie, man. This movie has something that all movies should have and that almost no movie has, you are an other charater in this movie, I mean, you are as ignorant as the rest of the characters are and you know nothing about this thing that is just ...( read more)destroying the city. An other very well used method is the shaking cam that is something that makes every one get more to the movie.
Although I have to recognise that maybe the shaking cam the lack of answers in the beginig and n the end coud represent a problem to some people but in my opinion this is a great job.
I´m adding this to my favorites not just because i reeeeally likeed it but because this movie has a memorable style in lots of things i won´t develope but un top of every thing th filming techniques
    REALLY LOVED IT!!

I love the fact that Cloverfield dared to carve out a niche of its own. Now everything else that adopts the same format will have to be compared to it.

ceritanya klise - tapi cara penyampaiannya sungguh beda. awesome. Very unique and a must see movie, especially for those who like the creative one.

I think this is probably the best monster movie out there from recent years. They did an amazing job with keeping you surprised and wanting more. I enjoyed the 1998 remake of Godzilla but I was disappointed that for all its very talented cast, that movie had no emotional heart. I never really felt anything of the character's predicament. Cloverfield does what Godzilla (in all its versions) failed to do; it allowed you to s...( read more)uspend disbelief and experience something of the character's emotional response. And it also made the destruction of New York City look more believable than any other film to date. It is a very good, exciting monster movie and I recommend it highly.

I love it, just cant wait the second part.

Cloverfield, directed by Matt Reeves, had none of the cheesiness like other monster movies -- ehem, Godzilla anyone? -- but even with the great suspense and special effects... I have to say I left the theaters with a bit of a disappointment. I wasn't a big fan of the whole shaky ...( read more)hand-held camera filming and the ending was too abrupt, foreshadowing a possible sequel to this movie.

The shaky camera thing could get tiresome, but this is a fun watch. Cute girls, big action. It's the sole reason I went to the movies when I was in junior high, but at 25 that kind of movie is still a good time when handled right.

Nothing too groundbreaking, but fun with some clever ideas and scenes. A cool cast with lots of funny lines. The shaky cam definitely made me sick. Oh well. Didn't love the ending at first, but after thinking about it, I think it works pretty well. Overall, a solid monster movie.

Scared the living daylights out of me. Its not like Godzilla, in Godzilla you're watching from a safe place. Here you don't. ITS BIG. IT HUGE. And I can't remember the rest.

I was fearing I would be seeing somthing similar to the Blair Witch Project, so my expectations were very low. But I thought this was really good... possibly because I could see what was happening at the crucial parts.

    CocoCoopah: "Random!"

SheriffBufordTJustice: Yes this movie was random. Was waiting for the cliche parts, but NO never happened. This is one of the very few movies in our time that keeps you guessing.

Why didn't I give it 5 stars then? I hated the fucking camera view :D
  • November 6, 2009
Really quite well done for what it is at the core, a simple monster movie. The camera really works and the storyline is actually interesting.

It tries to be "The Blair Witch Project", than tries to be "The Host", but let's face the truth - it just doesn't work!

It's the Blair Witch monster movie!

The 1st impression flashing in my head about this film as which is one of the typical 'disasters-movies' we have ever seen. The beginning does recall the certain scenario of 9/11. This was actually pretty good. Tense most of the way through. I wasn't sure about the camcorder angle, but it worked out fine.

Cloverfield is based on the brilliantly simple idea that you can shoot an entire monster movie - Blair Witch style - from a single camcorder. The result is made of awesome. Starting with a going-away party, which justifies the running camera, something goes boom and the rest of t...( read more)he film is a solid adrenaline rush all the way.

There is a surprisingly well plotted story under all the screaming and shaky camera work, as well as some well drawn characters. All of this is very carefully revealed within the 'found footage' conceit of the film and comes together in a way that is both very effective and avoids drawing attention to the cleverness of the scriptwriting.

Cloverfield is an all-round, damn good disaster movie.

Le plan de caméra était assez à chier, style Projet Blair, mais étonnament, j'ai eu un sentiment de stress tout le long du film quand même!

Alright... an old tired genre given some new light. Just when you think you have seen all that you can see in a "monster movie" something refreshingly different comes along giving you the human condition in crisis. The real time aspect of it is totally engaging and the fact that ...( read more)they used unknown actors made it that much better.
