I enjoyed this movie, perhaps because I identified a bit with Tim. There are a lot of insecure people in this movie. Tim's mom cannot stand to have someone take Tim away from her family. Tim is insecure about dealing with girls - even Jill doesn't know what to do with someone ...( read more)

I'll watch Brenda Blethyn in anything. Her comedy usually brightens up even the bleakest film and in this little gem, she has to work hard. This delightful little insight into a broken Australian home is interesting and quite tragic. Blethyn has some great moments , but ultimatel...( read more)

Very sweet. Brenda Blethyn is great - makes a very difficult character have great depth.

Critic Reviews
Blethyn, Chittenden and Wilson create a believable and ultimately endearing family; a trio of dreamers, big and small. full review
The script's attempt to splice together a fumbling love story with a portrait of toxic personality disorder feels incongruous, like a serving of porridge flambé au whisky. full review
The supporting players are amiable, and while the family's multiple dysfunctions verge on cartoonishness, the actors keep their characters relatively realistic. full review
How did this little gem EVER sneak into theatres this summer? Laughs, insight, human emotion...What a concept! full review
A funny-sad, icky-sweet comedy of family dysfunction.
