Figgis loves using classical music in his films (One Night Stand).Figgis loves experimenting with the rules of emotion and scenery (Hotel).Figgis loves a lot of stuff. So why the hell is he involved with a mediocre to say the least Hollywood killer vs innocents flick?
Its a little shocking that the director of Leaving Las Vegas directed Cold Creek Manor which was just that. It was cold. There was just no feeling coming from any of the actors. Id call it Lukewarm Creek Manor
This movie is at the bottom of my thriller list, if I had one, but it's still good. Stephen Dorff does a very convicing job of being mentally unstable. I thought the horse in the pool scene was pretty shocking, and it got my nerves pumping. Sharon Stone usually annoys me, but she did an ok job nonetheless. A decent film, which deserves a decent word of mention.
This movie does a good job of taking a sorta creepy guy and letting you watch his transformation into a psycho. I really liked this movie....the snakes still creep me out...
WHAT HAPPENED?! This movie is so poorly written one could easily mistake the writer to be a member of the animal kingdom. Whoever said this was a thriller? Who ever said this was a scary movie? This movie may be scary if you're a ninety-six year old woman on dialysis, but besides that I don't know. This movie is so pathetic they even screw up the cheap shots. Instead of showing the actual thing for the cheap shot, they show the non-talented actor's facial expression to the cheap shot. How fortunate we all are. The acting ranges from average to bad, with the exception of Dennis Quaid and Stephen Dorff. The direction of the film is a little choppy. But, when those credits started to role I was unbelievably disappointed. Who are the producers of this film? Why would Touchstone Pictures produce this film? However, towards the end of the movie the film actually gets kind of entertaining. And there is actually a really scary part. But the end (where we find out who or what is the killer) is almost as unbelievable as it is predictable. This type of movie has been done numerous amounts of times. I like to consider myself an easy-going critic, so I'll let Cold Creek Manor squeak by with a 'D+'. I don't recommend this film! Don't even rent it, wait for HBO or see it on a plane. Trust me, it will be even worse on a plane with the somewhat inappropriate entertaining parts edited out. Grade: D (recovered from yahoo.com; review written 10/13/03)
Only caught this one part way through, but thought it was a pretty watchable film, perhaps a little corny, but Stephen Dorff played the bad guy pretty well.
I was very disappointed, and not just because I had thought it was a supernatural horror film. I doo think the snakes scene was quite effective, but the rest...sigh...
The concept of this film was initially creepy at the beginning of the movie. At first I was thinking it was going to be really good, but after a while you began to realize it would be the same old horror/thriller cliche; man gets upset and kills his family, big old scary house, new family moves into the house, man gets annoyed and wants to kill them too. It could have been so much better, but overall It wasn't a complete waste of my time. Besides, Stephen Dorff looked very, very nice.
This is the same Mike Figis from Leaving Las Vegas? Seriously he's kidding right? There's no way that something that's bad even for Micheal Bay standards someone that good could make this movie? The same guy who got Nic Cage an oscar yet can't get one scene that will makes us jump the slighest bit from Dennis Quaid, Sharon Stone (I refuses to call Stephen Dorff an actor) Holy f*ck it is the same dude. D*mn hollywood causing gifted filmmakers to sell out for money.
The movie was decent. A bit boring. The alternate ending provided some nice answers/ideas, but wasn't done well for this type of movie. It wasn't scary, just a bit suspenseful..........
I don't like sick, disturbed people nor movies with them.
really liked this film.....it has a genuine story for a thriller and it starts with a normal city family that move to this awesome manor that needs a little work done so they hire the guy that knows the manor the best a guy who actually is gelous of what they have, he is exactly the type of redneck that would just look at ur wife's boobs in front of you that wouldn't be ashamed to just walk in uninvited, the one u start to trust a little and sits and eats lunch with u but later to try to kill u, mainly because the kids first found somethin from his past and story goes on..... cool movie with great story and great actors!!!
when you pop this dvd in, it dosn't say "play movie", it just says 'deleted scene".. the whole movie is one deleted scene, quaid is so coked out he's funny. sharron stone is wasted on something, maybe hanging out with quaid to long.. cooper tilson is my hero.
Sharon Stone and Dennis Quaid sure didn't bargain for what they got when they decided to relocate to the countryside! All I can say is wow.....what a story!
