Constantine

Djimon Hounsou, Gavin Rossdale, Keanu Reeves, Rachel Weisz, Shia LaBeouf

John Constantine has been to hell and back. Born with a gift he didn't want, the ability to clearly recognize the half-breed angels and demons that walk the earth in human skin, Constantine was driven...( read more  read more... ) to take his own life to escape the tormenting clarity of his vision. But he failed. Resuscitated against his will, he found himself cast back into the land of the living. Now, marked as an attempted suicide with a temporary lease on life, he patrols the earthly border between heaven and hell, hoping in vain to earn his way to salvation by sending the devil's foot soldiers back to the depths. But Constantine is no saint. Disillusioned by the world around him and at odds with the one beyond, he's a hard-drinking, hard-living bitter hero who scorns the very idea of heroism. Constantine will fight to save your soul but he doesn't want your admiration or your thanks--and certainly not your sympathy. All he wants is a reprieve. When a desperate but skeptical police detective enlists his help in solving the mysterious death of her beloved twin sister, their investigation takes them through the world of demons and angels that exists just beneath the landscape of contemporary Los Angeles. Caught in a catastrophic series of otherworldly events, the two become inextricably involved and seek to find their own peace at whatever cost.

inaccurate spiritual concepts all the way through, kind of silly and poorly concieved with lackluster performances.

I liked it but graphic novels are so much better. It should have been set in England and I would be more upset about that but unfortunately, I really don't think there are any English directors good enough to take on the project. Harsh but true!

"Hell wants him. Heaven won't take him. Earth needs him."

Based on the DC/Vertigo comic book Hellblazer and written by Kevin Brodbin, Mark Bomback and Frank Capello, Constantine tells the story of irreverent supernatural detective John Constantine (Keanu Reeves), who has ...( read more)literally been to hell and back.

    REVIEW

Keanu Reeves and Rachael Weisz find themselves in a qualitatively superior occult thriller that continues to move the genre forward. With quick elements of the Exorcist at the beginning and the more darker elements of Dogma, Constantine has great special effects that are awesome, sweeping in their intensity, has a great dose of humor at the right moments (that are light and not sickly sweet), has a script and plot that makes sense. This much more evil Ghostbuster production that avoids the Matrix elements and sticks to the roots of good and evil and the ambivalence of great forces at work. Constantive adds literally a different flesh to occult movies, making sure that the constant tension and fear remain drippingly creepy throughout the movie. The ending is strong instead of the weak horror copout version and has nice bite.

I enjoy the movie Constantine. I've seen it twice now. An interesting view of this universe of ours -- that angels and demons are contemporaries who use earth as their battle ground - angels to influence people to heaven and demons to influence people to hell.

    I even didn't ...( read more)mind the Matrix-like battles that Keanu fights.

This movie did the comic books justice as I am a fan of Constantine.Whoever says that this movie is too flashy for its own good is frankly talking out of his or hers rear end. The movie had just the right amount of information, special effects and violence to make it worthy of a ...( read more)10 score. The best scene in my mind, is when John goes through the hospital lobby, shooting and kicking ass as he goes. I would fully support any sequel from this film as I believe any film that can work Lucifer and the Angel Gabriel into its plot deserves a high mark from its viewers. One niggle is that it has a little too much build-up to its action-packed climax but that doesn't detract from this masterpiece of cinematic craft. If you don't agree with me, what i'm about to say cannot be typed on the public domain.

A comic remake, this film has some canonical flaws that may make die-hard comic fans cringe. However, for the layman, this film is very cool. Awesome special effects and a gripping storyline make it worthwhile.

Cool film, Keanu Reeves is the perfect anti-hero and then ofcurse there is a Swede as Lucifer!

I know some think his acting is wooden and one-dimensional, but I don't care - Keanu is gorgeous and adorable, and I enjoy him in practically every movie he makes. This one is nice and spooky, reuniting him with "Chain Reaction" co-star Rachel Weisz.
