An interesting concept and it would have a good film if it was done right. I think that if they would have stuck with Brynes character it would have been a more well developed film. Pitt's character was completely pointless and served no purpose. Unlike Roger Rabbit or Space Jam, in the "cool World" switches from a cartoon world completely animated to an empty stage with cartoonish drawn background. It is very distracting and poorly done. The story made no sense what so ever and the ending was baffling.
Take Ralph Bacshi's edgy adult humor, (Fritz the Cat, anyone?), and turn it into shlock, and have Kim Basinger as a toon imitating Jessica Rabbit, only in white, and you have a pretty lame adult cartoon that really doesn't titilate young guys, or impress their older siblings either. Yawn.
Crazy animation, some of it pretty cool. The movie started to go downhill pretty quick in the last half hour or so, but certainly interesting before that point.
Very good plot. It tells the story of a cartoonist who finds himself in the animated world he created, and is seduced by one of his characters, a comic strip vamp who wants to be real. Cool characters and lol humour.
STrange but somewhat interesting, i only watch this becasue of brad and i have only a few memories it was a while ago. I did like it but it was a bit loose not quite sure how much should be cartoon and how much should be real.
03-19-08 --I can't believe this movie got made. First of all Kim Basinger isn't that great of an actress to begin with but she was pretty darn bad here. Brad Pitt was awful. He tried using an accent and just didn't pull it off. I guess working with cartoons was hard to do in the mid-ninety's. It's like the writers were all sitting around and was like we need a movie like "who framed roger rabbit" but with more "adult" overtones. and then the pervert of the group is like "and Boobs!" but they didn't show any boobs they just gave you the cartoon-ie hint of the boobs. AND the cartoons were horrible. They were always like hitting each other and stuff like if it were an Itchy & Scratchy cartoon but less funny.
Interesting idea of having two worlds that are worlds apart be linked together. But the actual plot isn't truly revealed later in the movie while you are just watching a bunch of depraved cartoons and stupid ones run around trying to be entertaining. In the end it seems more like some writers depraved ideas about cartoons and what it would be like to have sleep with one. Which according to the movie would bring great calamity to the world as we know it.
this movie started out really good, but i didnt like the ending. and i liked kim basinger better when she was a cartoon, she became really annoying when she turned real. it had some awesome retro beats though and was worth the watch
Really cool...love Brad and Kim; this is a movie to put in your library as it seems new every time you watch it again. Upbeat, enjoyable, cute and a nice plot to it. Excellent watch..
So Imaginative, out there, and totally different. Still today, but considering it's 15, makes it even moreso... plus lots of insane background animation, for no puropse other then being on screen for a couple of seconds in the background.. Truely amazing
wow what a&%^&$%% movie surely none of the actors did a good job picking this one and brad pitt voice sounds like hayden from the star wars voice!! they sound very much alike!! it could have been a good movie but.. it just wasn't!!!
Not such a great movie as I thought it would be. Jack Deebs is a cartoonist who is due to be released from jail. His comic book "Cool World" describes a zany world populated by "doodles" (cartoon characters) and "noids" (humanoids). What Jack didn't realize is that Cool World really does exist, and a "doodle" scientist has just perfected a machine which links Cool World with our world. Intrigued at seeing his creating come to life, Jack is nonetheless wary as he knows that not everything in Cool World is exactly friendly.
Underrated blend of live action and animation. Captures a very rich, literally internal reality that harkens back to 60's underground comics and 30's/40's animation. Byrne and Basinger also deserve credit for their interesting performances.
